No Sleep for the Wicked

Posted on Sunday, 28 June 2020 - 5:54pm by Lieutenant Ryan Rose MD & Lieutenant JG Adrianna Eberhardt

Mission: Operation: Iktomi

After another night of broken sleep, Adrianna felt she needed to find an intervention. He mind was far too busy trying to convince her that she should just give up and brave life alone. It was stupid to think. She's only had two dates with Leopold, and whilst yes, there was a third potentially in the works, she was still opening herself up. The fact that Soral had indicated in a conversation that he would have paired them, made her almost feel there was no option to it. Even a Vulcan thought they would be good together. Between visions of him being run off of Earth, murdered or otherwise. Equally the dreams had shown Leo turning on her as her previous loves had.

Whilst she wasn't yet ready to admit defeat and physically see a shrink, she did know of something that had helped before. She walked into med bay and looked around for a doctor.

Ryan was just finishing up with a patient when he spotted Adrianna. "Hello Petty Officer Baciami." He smiled politely. "What can I do for you?"

Adrianna offered a smile. The last time they had spoken, she had told him that she felt the need to keep Doctors well-buttered, just in case she ever needed anything. It was nice that he remembered her, she must have made somewhat of an impression because of it. The Italian seemed to relax instantly, "hi Doctor Rose, I'm just wondering you have anything to help me sleep. I've tried everything else from camomille to meditation, it's just not cutting it."

"I'm sorry to hear that." He replied. "Is there anything in particular keeping you awake?" He asked.

She knew she'd be lying to him, so gave him everything but the actual truth, "I think it's a combination of diving headfirst straight back into work, a lot of recent changes in lifestyle and schedules and just being overtired. As dumb as it sounds, I genuinely feel too tired to sleep."

"Been there. done that." He wandered over to the supply cupboards with her. "Sometimes you just have to retrain your body to sleep." He offered. He grabbed her a small bottle of mild sleeping pills. "Try these for a few days in a row. Take them at the same time. Half an hour before bed time. That should help kick your circadian rhythm back into sync."

She looked to the pill and nodded, making a mental note, "Thank you. Can I just ask though: last time I was on something similar, if I had, say a nightmare, I'd still wake up and then just be unable to sleep. Will these be the same? So once awake, awake?" Adrianna was unsure if what she'd said made sense, but she needed to check because otherwise, it would defeat the point.

Ryan considered the question. "Hard to say for certain. They are mild, but everybody reacts a bit differently. Why don't we start with these though, we can reassess if needed." He was tempted to probe about the nightmare comment, but had a gut feeling that he'd need to build a further level of trust before that question would even be considered for an answer.

Adrianna offered a weak smile, "worth asking. Thank you for these." The one thing she remembered about taking the sleeping pills was that it was difficult to wake her. Thankfully she felt safe enough on the ship, she hoped, that it wouldn't matter as much. The woman was nervous about taking them. She finally said, "I'll give them a go anyway."

"Ok, let me know how it goes." He smiled. He made a mental note to add a note for himself when he got to his office, to check on her in a few days.

The Italian offered a smile, "will do. Thank you. Let me know if you ever need anything too."

Ryan smiled and nodded, then headed to his office.
