A New Kingdom

ON:

Soral leaned back in the chair that sat in his little office on the Standing Bear. He studied the room around him, so much a reflection of his counterpart but also of him. There on the desk was a picture of Soral and Alexandra at their wedding.

He picked up the frame and studied it. He had a similar picture on his desk back in his universe, one that was a mirror image of the one that he occupied now.

Things couldn’t have gone better when it came to his plan. Soval was already on his way home with the information that was needed and Soral was here, on the ship, with this universes version of Lexi.

He brought up the computer terminal and entered the personal code his counterpart used to record logs that would not be stored here on the ship but would get sent to Vulcan, a little side work around for those personal logs that were meant to stay personal.

The terminal whistled low to indicate that his personal logging system was active. “How predictable, Lexi’s birthday.” Not that he himself didn’t use the same code.

“Personal log,

The Standing Bear is… the same in this verse if perhaps a little different as Stillwater is still in command. When I ran the ship, it was...different. Soval is now back in the mirror verse and he and the children are on the way to the First Federation where they will be safe. A long space voyage but a necessary one.

I am here, we have just returned from the away mission, and I am finding myself fascinated by my surroundings. I will soon leave them and journey to Vulcan where I will give a speech as Shar of Vulcan.

They are now voting on whether they will stay within the United Federation of Planets or leave it. I am personally hoping that they leave, as is my counterpart but he has not the courage to speak directly for it rather then hiding behind the pen name that has served him for years.

Thanks to the Tallerian device I have access to his memories, and I was even able to convince Vali that I was him. It is working better then I thought.

Alexandra will be a bit more difficult to convince but we shall see how that goes.”

He paused and stood walking around the little room picking up objects on the shelf and testing his, or rather this Soral’s, memory. The link was strong.

He came back to his seat and restarted the log, “Being here, in this verse, has been… a most fascinating experience. I have learned much about my counterpart and his similarities are quite strong yet there are subtle differences.

I find that I am already imagining staying here. It may be nice, but I would miss Severine and Soval and the other children. No, I will depart once I have given Vulcan the push towards their independence that they need and once Lexi is by my side again.

Her memory fusion cannot be complete here, I would need some Vulcan healers but for now it will do until we are back to my verse.

I have two great tests today, a meeting with Stillwater, and Alexandra Kingsley. Let us see how all this goes. I too must face the dog Bones…he should be the hardest to convince. I know that K9s have a sense of smell and although I am a replica of this Soral the scent is subtly different. It will be different enough to arouse the dog’s suspicion. We shall see how that all goes, as well.

If you are listening to this, Soral, of this time, know that you play things too safe. I have always been one to speak my mind, yet you hide your feelings for fear of hurting others. I am disappointed in your lack of courage. I am hoping that you will learn from this a little.”

He shut down the recording and deleted the file. It was a good exercise in speaking the way that the Soral of this verse spoke. There was no sense in saving the log.

Standing he straightened his uniform and headed out to the bridge where he would face his first test, Stillwater. This would be interesting, would the good captain know that something was amiss? It was something only time would tell.
