Having completed the briefing regarding the requirements for the Runabout and the Shuttlecraft, Raith had arranged to meet up with the Fontana's Chief Engineer, Lt Commander J'Loni, to discuss what was needed and also to assist the repair effort.

The Fontana hadn't taken too much of a beating during its trip through the Wormhole, however, there were important systems that required attention before they made their dangerous but necessary trip through Romulan space. That notion alone meant that they needed everything, every system working to the best of its ability and that meant getting creative in some places.

Raith arrived in Main Engineering and marvelled at the QSD Power Core that stood before him. It was quite a sight to behold and for what the Core could make this ship do, the speeds it could achieve, it had to be an amazing feat of Engineering. As he stood by, an NCO walked up to him.

"Can I help you sir?" she asked. Raith shook himself out of his dream state as the Chief Petty Officer asked her question.

"Oh, my apologies...yes, I'm looking for Lt Commander J'Loni or Chief Eyelaya, are either of them around?" Raith asked as he got back to matters more important. The Chief pointed to a set of legs sticking out from underneath a console near the Engineering office and Raith nodded his thanks as he made his way over.

Eyelaya muttered while she worked at the consol. "You are not making this easy Ella. I am trying to fix you but you keep short-circuiting." She huffed and sat up only to see a man in an Ops uniform staring at her. She quickly stood giving the appropriate salute.

Raith smiled as she saluted. He could tell that the Chief was in the middle of a difficult job. "Easy Chief," he said. "Have you managed to coax... Ella... into working order?" he asked. It was good to see her so focused on the job.

"Nope. Stubborn. But most ships are until they get to know you." She shrugged. "She doesn't trust me yet." Smiling she said, "How can I help you sir?"

"I was looking for either Commander J'Loni or yourself to discuss the repairs and maintenance that's required after our recent trip through the wormhole. I was looking for collaboration from Engineering and maybe mixing up some Engineering and Operations teams..." he explained. "That might make these jobs go faster."

"She's just finished a senior Engineering briefing I can get you started though."

Raith smiled. "That would be perfect, is there somewhere we can go and look through this? I wanted to run some ideas past you guys before assigning people to teams and then getting to work myself," he explained. As he talked, Raith took note of Eyelaya's dual nationality. He'd heard of people of were born half Bajoran and half Cardassian, yet he'd never encountered one before.

She smiled, "Great. There is a mini boardroom." She led him to the room. "Please help yourself to the replicator and I'll get the updated data."

Raith grabbed a hot drink from the Replicator as the Chief returned back to the table with the data she required. As she came back, Raith cleared his throat and started looking at the list he had. "So, from the trip through the wormhole, I can see that we'll need to replace quite a few parts on some of the key systems. the major points are that we lost a Shield Generator, the lateral Sensor Array has taken some damage and we have several EPS conduits on various decks showing some serious signs of stress," he reported out.

"To add to this, the Captain has ordered that we install Holographic emitters to all four shuttles and the runabout for the away missions that are due to take place. I also want to add in some extra backups to the support craft before they leave, including putting extra's in place for the core systems such as Sensors, Shields, Life Support to stay the least...and at least that way, the Away Teams has a fighting chance of coming back in one piece should any bad happen on the way," he explained.

"To add to this, the repairs have been given a clock of 48 hours for completion, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible," Raith added, looking at the list of jobs ahead of them.

She smiled, "Sir I have learned that nothing is impossible. It will take both our departments working round the clock but I think we can do it. We're forgetting the Tactical department is well versed in shield modifications and weapons. They could take care of that as well as the holo-emitter install then we'd just have to do a double check there rather than starting from scratch." She blushed a little. "Sorry...It's not my place to say that. I'm just a CPO."

Raith smiled. "Keep those opinions coming, Chief, that sort of attitude will see you up the ladder sooner than later," he said. "I'll get in touch with the Tactical Department to get them to work on the Shield Generator and the Holo emitters being installed, that frees up some bodies for another job."

Looking down the list, he recognised what he was looking for. "Excellent, according to the Parts manifest, we do have the parts required for replacing and repairing any of the affected EPS conduits and also to get started on repairing the various internal elements for the lateral Sensor Array," he said. Looking over at the Chief, he made his point clear. "That will probably be the two biggest jobs that we have left."

She gave a nod. "Well, you can count on me! I love fixing things so it's like a vacation for me." Eyelaya sighed. "I will go check on the Chief Engineer. Do you mind if I step out for a moment?"

Raith shook his head as he continued to ruin through the parts manifests to see what else they needed. He was really enjoying working with the Chief already and knew that she was a capable and enthusiastic engineer.

She returned within a few minutes. "I'm sorry sir, she's delayed but she has authorized me to work everything out with you." She smiled. "We can finalize it all."

"That's fine, let's work through this together and allow the chief to carry on with their work, I know I had being disturbed when on the job," Raith explained. "Ok, we need to get on with getting these parts sorted to and then assigning teams to get these tasks completed, fancy a trip to the storage bays in a few minutes?"

Raith then walked over to the Wall display and pulled up a list of qualified Engineers and Ops people who would be able to work on the various jobs ahead. "So, who takes your fancy? Who do you feel is the most qualified for working on the Sensor array?" he began.

"I would say Ensign Johanssen from here and maybe...Ensign Rogers from your department? Rogers is a former engineer but also has been aligning sensor arrays from the academy to now." She smiled. "There are days I regret not going through the Academy," she said honestly.

Raith looked over the bios of the two choices that the Chief had come up with and nodded his approval. "I agree with both choices, however, I'd also like both Ensign Giles and Chief McCauley to help them out on this as well, it doesn't hurt to have a backup, just in case they come across any issues," Raith offered.

"Both Giles and McCauley are capable Ops people and they were also working on the internals for the Sensor Array before we left the dock, the more knowledge the better on this?" he said.

Once that was agreed, Raith then looked at the other job on the list. "In regards to the several EPS conduits on decks three, four, seven and ten, these are showing some serious signs of stress after the trip through. With the journey we will be making, we'll need some good people to make sure that these don't blow out on us whilst we are underway. the last thing we need is to be is stuck in Romulan space needing repairs," he explained.

Raith was finding the Chief's insights useful and it was clear that she was knowledgeable in her department whilst in the chief engineers stead.

"I can get some NCOs together and start making those teams on this end with your permission. I'll pepper them so we have a good Engineering and Ops group mix."

Raith nodded with his approval. "That sounds like a plan to me," he said as he agreed with the Chief's assessments and suggestions. He switched off the wall display once everything had been set in motion before turning towards Chief Eyelaya. "Thank you for your help today. Once the teams are ready to go, please let me know. I'm happy for them to report to me for any issues or questions they have," he explained.

She gave a nod, "Yes sir." She watched him go and set to work. They had a long tiring job ahead of them and she, for one, was looking forward to it.
