Tilian breezed into sickbay. He adjusted his black turtleneck so that it wasn't crinkled at the bottom. He took a breath and walked over to the CMO's office. He rang the chime and waited.
Ryan stepped from the back of sickbay, seeing someone head to his office. "Over here." Ryan called out, but came to meet the man half way.
Tilian stopped. He turned and walked a ways and stopped. "Doctor Rose?"
"Yes." Ryan nodded. "Petty Officer Grol, correct? It's a pleasure to meet you."
"I am, yes. It is nice to meet you as well. I am reporting in for my medical exam...however...I wish to discuss something prior to it."
"Of course." Ryan led the way back to his office, where Grol had started. "Can I get you anything to drink?" Ryan offered, grabbing himself a water while he was at the replicator.
"No, thank you. I have had breakfast." He paused. "How intrusive are your medical. Do you merely use the scanning equipment? Do you take blood?"
"Well we don't draw blood as a matter of course. A basic physical just requires the minimum of scans. Is there anything specific you have a concern with?" Ryan asked.
He looked uncomfortable a moment. "I do not like blood. My previous CMO insisted on blood draws. I was never comfortable with physical contact." He paused. "How often are the bio beds cleaned sir?" He then added, "It's no insult I just have an aversion to germs."
Ryan put up a hand. "No offense given I assure you. The bio beds are sterilized after every use, as well as any equipment used. There is also a secondary filtration system with redundant hepa filters for the air supply in sickbay. If you feel more comfortable I can also wear a mask and gloves. I can avoid physical contact for a basic physical, that's no problem. Though I will have to be close for some of the scans. Perhaps 25 centimeters."
Tilian relaxed. "Thank you. I do appreciate it." His tone changed from formal to more friendly. Some of the tension left his body.
"No problem. Let me have one of the bio beds freshly sterilized, and I'll mask up and be right there." Ryan led the way out of sickbay, and asked the nurse on duty to sterilize the bed, while he went and changed. Ryan washed his hands as if preparing for surgery, then put on a mask. Sure, it was overkill. There was a sterilizing UV light under the bio-bed, and at the cart stand that did a quick sterilization, but Ryan didn't mind if it would put his patient at ease. There was something soothing about the whole scrubbing up process anyway. He even put his tricorder under the sterilizer. "Anything I need to know medically speaking?" He asked before starting the scans.
He shook his head. "Generally I am in good health."
Ryan took some readings, keeping as much distance as he could. "Little stressful being in sickbay?" He asked.
"A little." He admitted.
"I can tell. Your blood pressure is a bit high, and your stress hormones, but that's understandable. I'm not overly worried, but we'll let you settle in for a few weeks and check again." Ryan stepped back. "Other than that, things look good. I'm happy to clear you for duty. Do you have any further questions?"
"Not so far." Then he paused. "Commander Soral said you have lost your assistant recently."
"I did. I am without a yeoman. The department is far too small to actually warrant one, but I admit, I'm bad with paperwork. Do you have a suggestion?" He asked, perhaps the yeoman had some ideas.
"Indeed. I have my duties with Commander's Soral and Stillwater, however I do not mind assisting here. I did so may times with a previous CMO and am familiar with Starfleet medical protocol. Commander Soral has granted me quarters that allow for an office and a promise of no roommate thus I can secure information to be kept in confidence and work on assisting you with reports."
"That's very generous, but I don't want to overtax you. If you wouldn't mind spending some time training me though, I won't say no to that. I really should learn to do it myself more efficiently."
"We can do both. I am not over taxed I assure you. I make it a point never to offer something unless I mean it. I am an assistant and I wish to assist. Commander Stillwater does not need me much, Commander Soral is frustratingly independent although I have turned many independent officers into dependent ones...job security." He said. "I am happy to assist you."
Ryan had to chuckle at that. "Ok. Well Thank you. I appreciate it."
"Excellent! Perhaps we can meet later and work out a routine."
"Yes, of course. Just let me know when you are free. We can meet wherever you are most comfortable." Ryan replied.
"Your office is fine." He gave a small bow noting, not for the first time, that the doctor was not only pleasant and accommodating but a handsome man. "Am I cleared for duty?"
"Yes, you're good to go. Again, it was nice to meet you, and I look forward to getting some paperwork help."
He gave a nod. "Indeed."
