“Enter,” he called out.

The door whooshed open and he saw a lovely Bajoran woman standing there. She smiled.

“Hello! I’m Chief Eyelaya.”

Of course she outranked him. “Ma’am.”

She waved his words off. “Oh please. I don’t stand on formality.” She looked down and noticed a mat that had been placed inside the door along with a shoe holder. She quickly put two and two together. She removed her shoes and placed them on the empty holder.

Tilian was impressed. Not many people understood that he didn’t like them entering his quarters with their shoes, especially now that he’d sanitized the floor and carpets. He motioned. “Please come in. The office is this way.”

She smiled. “I used to have a spare room to myself but recently got a roommate. I am not good with roommates.”

He raised an eyebrow in a manner that would have made a Vulcan proud. “Indeed. Nor am I. I was lucky the XO approved this spare room being an office.”

Eyelaya entered the small space that could fit nothing but a bed and nightstand but now only held a desk and chair. “It’ll take about twenty minutes to get this done.”

“Indeed. May I get you a drink?”

“No I’m good.” She noted a picture that he’d hung on the wall. “Ohhhh Is that Christopher Pike?”

Tilian raised an eyebrow again. “A personal Hero.”

She grinned. “Mine too! He was smart, fun, professional, and crazy good looking.”

Tilian smiled. “Indeed.” He was beginning to like this sprite.

“They just came out with a new autobiography of him. The final four chapters were written by Ambassador Spock. They were never released until recently.”

He smiled. “I have just begun that book. Chapter two only.”

“Ohhhh the trip to the colony. Love it!”

He smiled. “Well perhaps when I finish we can discuss it.”

“Oh yes! I loved it. Maybe I’ll read it again.” She motioned to the table. “Well I’ll get this done as soon as I can.” She had a feeling he did not like anyone invading his privacy.
“No rush,” he said. He hurried out to let her do her work.

Twenty minutes later she popped out. “Well it will take a half hour to boot and then I’ll be back to make the connections.”

Tilian paused. “Would you like to wait here? I could replicate some drinks and snacks.”

She paused, “Are you sure? I don’t want to intrude. I’m a privacy bug too. I’m not that good with social situations and will probably say something to offend.”

Something he knew about. “Nonsense, I am the same way but I we shall find something to talk about.”

They had settled in the dinning area and he’d replicated some iced tea and cakes. They had a long conversation about Captain Pike and their mutual admiration for him and Ambassador Spock. It had been a pleasant talk and all too soon they were back in the office rebooting the computer and entering the proper codes.

Within an hour he was set up and receiving data from both the CO and XO and CMO. He was happy and content with it all. He thanked her again as she picked up her shoes and put them on outside his quarters. He found that he liked her. He bid her farewell an then headed out to the station to pick up a few last minute items.
