Selin sat on a large deep red cushion in her living room. A small table in front of her. She was having problems falling into a proper meditation. She let her mind wander for a few moments, seeing where it would lead. Perhaps it would lead her to the cause of her lack of concentration. As she let her mind go free, she pictured Soral. She didn't try to stop the small smile that reached her face at his memory. Had their circumstances been different, there very well might have been something there. As it was though, he was a fond memory. There was no reason they had to be strangers though. She opened up the communications on her PaDD and placed a call to the Fontana, only to learn she had been renamed the Standing Bear.
Since Soral was still on Earth all his calls were re-directed. Alex was sleeping as were Laura and Severine. He now sat in Laura's office going over reports that warranted immediate attention. The com unit beeped. An incoming communication for him. He raised an eyebrow and entered his code to allow the coms to come through. He waited and watched as the image shimmered from the Starfleet standard into a familiar face. "Selin?"
"Greetings Soral." She noticed her call had been rerouted. "You are on Earth. Is everything alright?" She asked.
"Indeed." He was taken off guard a little. His fondness for Selin was still there but seeing her he could tell that his love for Alex was strong. He cared for the woman and would always remember her fondly. There was also guilt. He'd refused her due to is union to be with T'Aurora yet he'd married Alex. Part of it was in thanks to Selin who'd made him realize that defiance of tradition was nothing shameful. For that he'd be grateful. "I am on a honeymoon of sorts." He said honestly. "Are you well?"
"I am well. I was having troubles meditating, and thought of you. I was simply checking in. So you have bonded with T'Aurora?" She asked, wondering why he would be on Earth and not Vulcan.
"Not precisely." He said. "I .... will be returning to Vulcan perhaps on my next leave to ensure that, that particular contract is voided." He paused. "My wife's adopted mother is from Earth." He paused. Why was he so afraid to say something, probably because he did not want to cause her hurt.
Selin lifted a brow, understanding dawning. "You have found somebody you want to be with for love, not honor." She was sure she was correct. "Soral, that is wonderful." She could admit to a hurt at learning he'd gone after his heart after all, but it was a small hurt. She was legitimately happy for him.
"Indeed. It was...nothing I planned for. It was sudden. " He paused. "After we parted I began thinking of things. I was more determined then ever to marry T'Aurora honor was important and then Alexandra found her way into my life. I knew what you said in that instant that love is worth fighting for." He paused.
"I will expect the first child to have a variant of my name somewhere." She stated firmly, but with a clear glimmer of mischief in her eyes. "I wish you a life time of happiness." She said seriously. "She is not Vulcan?" It was not a Vulcan name.
"She is El-Aurian by one half and Human by the other." He paused. "Actually...there is a development there as well." He paused again. "A brief encounter during...Pon Farr seven years ago. I just recently learned that it resulted in twins born." He was happy to have told someone. Perhaps her being Vulcan made all the difference.
"The mother kept this knowledge from you?" Selin asked, clearly angry but controlling it.
"Indeed. I just leaned of their existence a few days ago." He sighed. It is all so complicated. I had arrived for my wedding to find I not only had a twin sister myself but the woman that bore my children had died in childbirth and had charged said twin sister to not tell me they existed." Suddenly he looked tired. "Suffice it to say my reaction was quite un-Vulcan and the shock of it had...health implications."
She was several thousand light years away, but Selin immediately sat further forward. "Do you need me to come to Earth Soral? I am not a Vulcan healer, but you know their methods can be...esoteric. I can try and decipher things." She paused. "Are you even seeing a Vulcan healer?" She realized he may not have chosen to go that route. Either way, she was willing to take leave and go to him.
"A friend of mine, half Vulcan doctor, was here. He called it a mild cardiac episode. He assures me that short of rest there is nothing that can be done." He studied her fondly. "I do appreciate your offer more then I can put into words."
"The offer stands if circumstances change." She assured him. "I consider you a friend above being a past lover." She smiled softly at him. "Perhaps I should take your actions to heart, and allow another into mine."
"I believe so. You have so much to give Selin. Remember that you deserve the best and do not allow yourself to settle for less. I wish to see you happy."
"As I do you. I am very pleased you have found someone to share your life with. Please, let me know how are you doing. There is no need to be a stranger, and I enjoy keeping in touch."
"I do as well." He thought a moment. "May I ask you a question?"
She nodded. "Of course. You may ask me anything."
"Do you know much about L'tak Torai. It is rare I know." He wondered if she was familiar with the spatial and order dysphasia illness.
"Do you mean L'tak Terai? It is rare, especially among full blooded Vulcans. "Ambassador Spock suffered from it as a child, the allele was determined to be identical to the one found in humans with dyslexia. It presents in much the same manner in Vulcans. Why do you ask?" She asked curiously.
He sighed. "It is a condition that has been passed thorough the males in my family. My son has it as did I when I was a child. When I was young I leaned to control the symptoms to the point that they had little if any effect on me." He paused. "Recently the stress and the strain of all that has occurred." He paused, "It has caused my condition flare up. Particularly after the bond between my wife and I was forcibly severed. It is to the point where I am having issues...buttoning my shirt." He wanted to know how long it would take for him to be able to control the symptoms again.
"Soral!" She raised her voice just a bit. "You're bond has been severed, you should be on Vulcan." 'you stubborn fool' could be heard whispered under her breath. "You have left quite a bit out of the conversation. She had Soral give her the full story, listening without interruption. "I still think you should be on Vulcan, but it is of course your choice. I can collect the data we have on L'tak Terai and pass it on to Doctor Rose. I will be able to access Vulcan medical more quickly than him. I will send it along as soon as I can."
He sighed. "Thank you." He looked at her. "I have...never experienced anything like the loss of the bond." He rubbed his eyes. "It was... horrible. Doctor Hades said that we cannot try the bond again until Alexandra heals. I feel lost without it. It as if my mind cannot function properly."
"All the more reason to be on Vulcan with a proper healer. But I shall cease my nagging." She gave him a slightly apologetic look. "I shall hope for a speedy recovery for your bond mate. I do not like knowing you are suffering. It is no doubt causing the flare up of L'tak Terai as well. Please rest and take care of yourself."
He gave a nod. "You are not nagging. Your care is appreciated. To be honest my...worry is for Alexandra. She tends to put blame on herself when none is necessary. I have never experienced the emotion thusly. We Vulcans have it of course and control it however when it comes to her I find it difficult to control." He allowed himself a small smile and then he looked at Selin. "Selin I hope that I have not hurt you with my words tonight." He paused. "I wish you to know that I do care for you and above all I shall always be your friend."
