Mission: Operation: Trail of Tears
Location: Standing Bear | Holodeck
Timeline: 2394 - MD 08 Early Morning

ON:

So much had happened in the last few days. They had worked through the night coming up with a plan and now they had a day of rest before they headed into the unknown. Soral had been having mixed feelings the whole time. He was…glad to be back but deeply saddened that it no longer held Romulus and the other worlds that were destroyed by the sun that had gasped its last breath.

He’d left Alex sleeping in their quarters because tonight they would be heading into the debris that was once Romulus and wading through it trying to figure out that damned signal and what it meant.

He took this opportunity to call up a temple that he’d saved in the holo matrix. He would try the summoning to see if he could at least ask for some divine help with respect to what Haru and Alex were doing, the guarantee of healing. If the summoning failed at the very least he may get a good meditation session out of it.

Calling up the program he paused a moment outside the door to bring himself into the state of mind that would begin the summoning / meditation. Ideally, the type of ceremony that he’d wanted to conger required at least another Vulcan there. T’Paris was out of the question because she irritated Alexandra so much and because of her feelings for Soral. T’Lara was a good call but he wasn’t going to risk it upsetting Alex. There was a certain intimacy to this ceremony that meant nothing to Vulcans other then a mind sweep but he would not risk upsetting his wife.

Taking one final deep breath he stepped to the door sensors which parted and allowed him sacred entrance to the program that was running.

The room was beyond warm. It smelled of sandalwood and exotic flowers. White smoke curled from the hundreds of incents that were lit around the room. Candles provided the only light and cast shadows on the golden columns. The sandstone walls were covered with images that were familiar to Vulcans and known to exist before the Time of Awakening. Soral walked around the room adding candles where he felt there should be more.

Once satisfied he changed from his clothing into thick brown Vulcan robes. Slowly he approached the centre of the temple. There in the center was a deep fire pit over which was suspended a tripod holding a golden cauldron. Inside it a slivery white liquid bubbled and swirled.

“Computer, disengage safeties authorization Soral Alpha-Tango-Sierra-9-9-4-2.”

There was a chirp and then he felt the heat of the flames. Walking over to a table just beyond the fire pit he picked up a plate that held on it several green dried herbs.

Gently he sprinkled the herbs over the bubbling liquid and watched as the smoke rose from it. He took off the robes and stood in front of the cauldron wearing nothing but his black sweat pants. He raised his arms high above him. “Shariel, Great God of Vulcan. I call upon thee as my patron. I call upon thy wisdom and thy power. I give myself over to thee and beg a favour.”

He was sadly disappointed when nothing happened.

He sighed and closed his eyes taking several deep breaths before beginning the chant again, this time in an ancient Vulcan dialect that was seldom spoken.

The room seemed to fall silent and he felt a breeze rising as if someone stood behind him breathing on his neck. His tattoo like marks began to glow and he felt as if the room had turned darker.

A coldness settled around the room that made him wish he still had his robes around him.

“Why does thou call me?” A whispered hissing voice sounded from all around.

An anxiety settled over Soral, and why should it not? He was calling on Shariel the Warrior God, the God of Death, of Rebirth.

He kept his eyes closed as he spoke, “I Soral of my newly formed house call thee and ask for thee to bless and maintain my wife and friends as they undertake the healing of my wife’s mind so that a bond may be formed.”

Suddenly it felt as if something was being hurled at him. Instinctively he opened his eyes and there in front of him the mist parted. A tall Vulcan wearing black and gold robes stood before him. His face frozen in a severe emotionless mask. The face was a familiar one. “Shariel.” He bowed deeply.

The being circled him. “I know what thee wishes and I am prepared to grant it…for a price.”

Soral sighed. He’d known that this was coming.

“Anything for the safety of my wife.” He knew that what he should have done was ask what the price was but the truth was that he’d do what it took to keep his family safe.

Soral heard a telepathic message, a cryptic riddle he could not decipher fully spoken in old Vulcan about a mirror darkness confrontation and a death and rebirth. Suddenly his body felt like flame his eyes began go glow.

“Do you accept the bargain?” Shariel asked.

Soral gave a nod. “I do.” Suddenly he felt his body rise almost to the top of the holodeck temple and then just as suddenly he dropped to the ground his eyes glowing. A green mist swirling around him and working its way over his face and into his eyes, changing them from their ocean blue to an emerald glowing green. A lightening bold seemed to run through his mind and then darkness and a certainty that Alexandra would be alright; that Haru would be alright. A buzzing sound filled the room, a sound so loud that he curled into a ball pressing his hands to his ears in a vain attempt to drown out the sound.
