Meditative Discussions

Mission: Operation: Overdrive
Location: USS Fontana | Holodeck 1
Timeline: 2393 (Evening two nights before arrival at Camelot)

{ON:}

Yolen strolled into the holodeck. "Hello Commander. How are you doing tonight?"

Soral, who'd set up a meditation session at the holodeck for himself, was surprised to see the young Lieutenant. He searched his mind for the images and file. "Lieutenant Yolen...Is there something that I could assist you with?"

Yolen smiled, "I am here for the meditation class."

"Ah, that is in two days."

"Oh, I beg your pardon Commander. I must have mixed up my days. It has been an eventful week I'm afraid," He smiled widening his smile just a little more then possible for any human.

"Indeed?"

"I have just finished my six day sleep cycle as well as recovering from Rigelian fever. My apologies for not being on the bridge for the Launch."

Soral gave a nod. "Ah yes. Well we did manage however I believe that Commander Victirix would prefer someone like yourself at the helm."

"Indeed. Once I am back on full duties I very much look forward to it." He gave a small bow. "Myyy apologies commander. I will leave you to your meditation."

"If you wish to stay I do not mind starting the class early."

Yolen smiled impossibly wide. "I am honoured. A private mediation session." Yolen put down his bag and walked over to the fire. He sat down. "I so enjoy meditation, I have not had the opportunity to meditate since my time at the Vulcan compound while at the Academy."

Soral raised an eyebrow. "Indeed. I always found their sessions to be adequate."

"Indeed," Yolen mimicked.

Soral had to admit he was thus far impressed with the young Denobulan. "Very well. Let us begin. If you will direct your eyes to the flame in the center. Start by focusing upon it and taking deep breaths. When you are ready close your eyes and keep the image of the flame in the forefront of your mind."

Yolen focused on the flame breathing in and then breathing out several times. When he felt ready he closed his eyes. The thoughts drifted by only to be swallowed by the flame. Time seemed to slow and an air of calm drifted though the room. Yolen felt more relaxed then after his hibernation cycle. Minutes ticked by and soon two hours passed before he heard Soral's voice again.

"Keep focus on the flame and slowly bring your attention to the room around you. Sense it and when you are ready open your eyes, focus on the actual flame again and take a few deep breaths.

Yolen did as asked and soon the meditation was over. He stood and walked over to his bag taking a drink of water. "That was delightful! Very relaxing Indeed."

Soral stood slowly. "I try to meditate daily." Goodness knows he'd needed it recently.

They gathered their items and headed out of the holodeck. "Commander, is it difficult to be amongst humans for you?"

Soral, taken aback by the rather direct question considered it a moment. "Not too difficult. I have grown accustomed to them. The only issue is the temperature and I can adjust that in my own quarters."

"I see." He looked around as they walked. "I too am used to them, however, there are times when I feel quite lonely. Denobulans are social group but I have always preferred solitude however there are times..."

Soral had always strived to put his crew at ease. He wasn't the CO but he was here to help her as much as he could, especially with staff and issues like this. "I can understand that. I too have found the solitude somewhat uncomfortable at times." He paused. "Do you miss your family, your wives?" He hadn't studied the file of Yolen too closely.

"I am not married. It was why I was...thrown out, banished by the family. I refused to marry, did not want children."

Soral studied the man as they entered the turbo lift. "It is a difficult decision. I do not want children either." As for marriage he had no choice in the matter.

Yolen shrugged his cheerful demeanor somewhat deflated. "Well, Commander, this is me." He bid the man farewell and headed out. "It was lovely to meet you."

Soral stayed on the lift for a few more decks. He would need to speak with the CO about getting the new helms man on alpha shift. In fact he'd speak to Yolen and the researcher, that they had been blessed with, about changing their duties a little but that would wait until tomorrow. Tonight he was tired. He hoped that nightmares were not going to come.
