Personal Log: You-Who

Posted on Friday, 24 July 2020 - 11:18am by Commander DeVala Victrix Ph.D

What is this assignment that I'm on? I am not entirely sure why I said yes to this posting aboard starbase 118; however, it has been, nonetheless. Captain Adelia Dashwood is a character and there is no other way to describe her. The woman Can hardly manage her home personal schedule and yet she somehow manages to run the surveys completely fine without needing the assistance of anybody. The problem really is her personal life is a mass And I do not know if even A dozen Yeoman Could even put it together. She loves the spotlight there is no question in that, but she is asking the humblest person I have ever met let alone served under. She will go out of her way to cheer you up in her own unique way which is to say she will lift you up by pushing the problems down and refocusing the attention back on herself. though this may seem selfish in self-centered that somehow comes across this during and I am completely confused about how somebody so egotistical can still make you feel like you were the only person that matters in that moment.

Nevertheless, I do not regret the decision I made by accepting this position. It is not a luxurious office like I am used to in France, and the starbase itself is designed for primarily scientific operations through means of research and exploration. Our two diligent class starships: the Gentry and Monarch have been an adjustment to get used to. Neither of them is fitted with QSD which isn't really a surprise. I do not think the Diligent class could handle it, but I'm not an engineer. It would have certainly been nice to have it though, especially when I'm outgunned and outnumbered, but Evie is crafty albeit young and kind of inexperienced for the position she holds. The problem is personnel is not that easy to come by these days and the more experienced engineers and tactical officers are on the front lines aboard starships, not serving aboard Starbase 118 near the Briar Patch. I love that name, by the way, it describes it quite well: extraordinarily dangerous with plenty of barbs to jab yourself will, but if you manage to navigate your way through it, it holds some precious gems.

I am definitely not one to talk about inexperience. I was flung into the Captain's chair aboard the Fontana in order to track down Stillwater. I know I had my missteps and my inexperience definitely showed. I was fortunate enough to have a good crew behind me, all of whom more or less knew what they were doing. I came out the other end with more experience though, and both my no-nonsense 'desk work' experience and my time as acting Commanding Officer of the Fontana has proved fruitful in my new position as Executive Officer for Adelia Dashwood and Starbase 118. Adelia has command experience and an Operations background, but I have read through her previous Executive Officers (Yes, more than one. She's been here a while) reports and I could not really find many mentions of Adelia taking the Gentry nor Monarch out herself. She seems to be perfectly at peace lurking around the shops on the promenade and sometimes at her desk in the Station Commander's office; however, Adelia is a busy body. She cannot sit in one place too long and she needs to be around people just as much as I suspect people need to be around her.

One thing I do know; however, is that I will never be able to hear anybody call out 'You-Hoo' and not immediately expect Adelia to be there. I do not know how long I will have this position. Hopefully, it will be for a good long while, but part of me does not know if I could continue under a different Station Commander. There is just something about the working relationship between Captain Dashwood and myself that is unique and special. Whenever I am away on a mission with one of the starships, there is always coffee ready for me as soon as I request clearance for docking, and as soon as I track her down whoever she is at the moment even if it is her quarters in the middle of the night or early morning, she's always standing there coffee in hand and says: "You-Hoo, I have your coffee ready for you, dear."
