Soral had entered sickbay and found, with the help of a nurse, that the Doctor was in his office. Soral made his way there and after leaving the patient with the nurse. He stood outside the office and rang the chime.
Ryan had an apple in his mouth as he glared at a PaDD "Itdoesnmaysens" He mumbled to his PA/yeoman/wife. Before she could reply the chime sounded. Ryan put the apple down, swallowed and called out "Come on in." He was still getting the medical team used to just sounding the chime and entering. He had an open door policy, and was tempted to just leave the door actually open if they kept waiting for him to call out.
Soral entered the office with his hands firmly clasped behind his back. "Am I intruding?"
"Not at all sir. How can I help you?" He asked, standing up and coming around his desk.
"I have a patient for you. He requires a clearing but he is... unusual."
"Unusual?" Ryan asked, he checked his labcoat pocket, but his medical tricorder was there.
"Yes...not human, or Vulcan. He is, as I understand it, called a Beagle."
Ryan got a huge grin on his face. "A dog?" He hurried out of the office then, quickly finding the adorable dog being tended to by a nurse. "Hey boy." Ryan immediately turned to the higher pitch of 'baby and adorable animal talk. "Who's a good boy?" He started petting the dog. "What's his name?" He turned his head to ask Soral.
The dog wagged his tail as Ryan pet him.
"I do not know yet. I am currently researching names. I have just obtained him on the station. He is... six weeks old."
"Well he's adorable." Ryan continued to pet the dog, sneaking in a peak at his ears, and his gums while he kept the pup occupied. He managed a quick scan between getting licked and offering pets. All in all he was having a wonderful time. "He's perfectly healthy." Ryan smiled.
"Do you know much about ...Beagles? The man who gave him to me said he was unusual as he did not run and play as the others did. He seemed to observe the others. To me, he seemed a logical creature."
"Well his muscle tone is fine, and he's not overweight." Ryan commented. "Dogs have personalities just like the rest of us. Perhaps he's just the observing type. I'm no vet, but I don't see anything to be concerned about. I can call up the EMH for a second opinion if you'd like."
"I trust you, doctor. Will you be able to provide ongoing care if he should need it?" If the doctor was not then he'd have to leave the dog. He was not looking forward to that.
"Absolutely. He can come visit anytime. I'd be happy to watch him if you ever need it as well." It had been a long time since Ryan had a dog. "Congratulations, he's wonderful."
He looked at the dog. "I had not been planning on it but ...Observe." Soral made his way towards the door and the little puppy began to whine and look about for a way to get off the bio bed. Soral turned and walked back. "He seems attached."
Ryan smiled. "He does indeed. I think the dog may have found you rather than the other way around. I use to leave my clothes from the day before." Ryan offered. "Give him your smell while your gone."
"Fascinating." He studied the doctor. "Perhaps you can assist me I need to gather a list of items that I will require for him." He had to admit. "I do not know where to start."
"Sure." Ryan grabbed a spare PaDD. "The computer has a list of appropriate foods. I'd free feed for now, he's still really young. If you haven't got one already, you'll probably want a crate." Ryan jotted down the appropriate size on the PaDD. "Absorbent PaDDs, they make them specifically for dogs, scented so they will eliminate their waste where you want them to, and not on your carpet. Chew toys, soft toys, a harness and leash." Ryan was speaking out loud, but making notations on the PaDD as he went.
He looked at Ryan. "That sounds...like quite the list. "What do you mean by free feed." He was distinctly starting to get the idea that he was in over his head.
"Oh, it just means to leave food out for him all the time." Ryan hit a button on the PaDD. Ryan downloaded a basic how to care for a dog book, then found his own log from when Lilly had been a puppy. "I put a couple of resources for you on here. But if you have any questions, feel free to call anytime."
Soral looked over the PaDD. "I will probably have questions." He picked up the dog who jumped into his arms even before he was able to lift it. "Perhaps you can assist me with the shopping when your duties permit?"
"Actually that's a very good idea. I've been meaning to visit the base a bit, and I keep getting sidetracked. Are you free around lunch time tomorrow?" Ryan asked.
"Indeed." The dog gave a yelp. Soral turned to him. "Alright you may accompany us."
Ryan had to smile. Clearly these two were meant to be together. "I'll see you then."
