Peculiar Scar

Mission: Operation: Iktomi
Location: Med Bay

Petty Officer Baciami knew that she'd been avoiding going for her review in med-bay. It wasn't that she didn't like doctors, or wasn't a fan of blood, guts and gore, she just didn't like the face they made at her non specific medical history. A lot of 'fixes' had been done crudely by a family doctor who didn't ask questions. It left a lot to be desired but no-one had ever flagged that the work needed redoing. Her uniform hid scars that she kept as wistful reminders of a past once lived. The one had developed to be a pretty pattern. That one in particular helped remind her that whilst she'd come from a rough background, this new chapter was one that could, and partially already had, develop into something amazing.

The italian stepped into med-bay and looked around. It wasn't overly busy, but she was unsure if she should stand and wait, or hop up onto a random biobed and wait.

Ryan was just finishing up with a twisted ankle when the doors to sickbay opened. "I'll be right there." He called out, seeing the woman wasn't bleeding or otherwise in obvious distress. Just a few moments later he came over. "Good morning, or afternoon. Petty Officer Baciami?" He took a quick glance at the medical file of all new crew, so recognized her.

"It's still morning for another five minutes," she offered a warm smile. Adrianna understood how being busy could often warp the concept of time, "Adrianna Baciami, here for a physical."

"Right, morning." Ryan was going to have to start pulling a Jack and wearing a watch. "Hop up for me please." He reached for his tricorder, only to realize it wasn't in his labcoat pocket. "Be right back." He certainly wasn't appearing to be a competent doctor this morning. He walked over to the last bio bed he'd been at, and found his tricorder, then quickly returned.

Obediently, she hopped up on a biobed. Her eyes followed him in his scurry. "You alright, doctor?" Adrianna asked. From experience, it was always worth while making friends with a doctor.

Ryan chuckled. "Yes, just one of those mornings. Some coffee and a bagel, and I'll be golden. Forgive my first impression please. Now, about you. Anything I need to know?"

Adrianna waved him off, "Don't worry. In terms of stuff you need to know, uh." she ran a hand through her hair, "Don't be too surprised? Think my file has most of what I can remember. No ones ever questioned it."

Ryan nodded. "I saw the notation. If the scarring isn't affecting your abilities, there's no medical reason to remove it. It does have a tendency to come back anyway, especially if it's been there awhile. But if you ever change your mind in the future, I'd be happy to take care of it." It wasn't strictly medically necessary, but he had to ask. "Do you mind if I see it? Medically curious. But feel free to decline, I can get what I need for your medical clearance from the tricorder."

"Sure," Adrianna replied, slipping off her jacket and turning so her back was to Ryan. She lifted up her undershirt to reveal a scar which was maybe a centimetre in diameter circle with what looked like lightening strikes coming off of it all the way round, the longest being around fifteen centimetres, similar to the scarring left behind if you were to survive a lightning strike. On her olive skin, the scarring almost looked white, "the salt in the bullet cause the -" Adrianna tried a few words but just didn't know the correct term in standard so opted for, "the spreading pattern."

Ryan made a low humming noise of confirmation that he'd understood. He looked for a few moments, then pulled back. "Thank you." The scans showed nothing of concern, and were quickly done.

The woman rolled her top back down and put her uniform jacket on. She couldn't help but chuckle, "you're the first person that actually wanted to see it."

Ryan turned a tiny bit pink. "Sorry. I was curious. There's something to be said for a visual inspection, and not just trusting what the tricorder tells you."

"I didn't mean to embarrass you," Adrianna apologised, "hell, I'd walk around naked and not feel mortified, only a bit cold. I guess it's not every day you see such an ancient wound on young or modern skin."

Ryan nodded his agreement. "It's fine. All things considered it healed more nicely than it could have."

"I agree," she smiled, "I promise there's no more of those kind of injuries in my future. I'm not accident prone, rarely get sick and I'm no longer on any form of front line, so to speak."

"Good to hear." Ryan replied. Ryan closed up his scanner. "Well you are clear, but any questions or concerns?"

Adrianna thought about it, "do I have to see a shrink and check in, or are you happy to sign that off as a doctor?"

"Do you need to see a counselor?" Ryan asked.

"Preferably not," she replied, "they like to see me. But I'm fine."

"Alright, we can hold off." Ryan agreed. "Don't make me regret it." He smiled.

Adrianna smirked, "from experience, I know not to anger a doctor. Only ever be a good patient so that they'll be happy to help later."

"Very sound strategy." Ryan had to agree. "Well, you are good to go."

"Thank you, Doctor," the woman hopped of the biobed and headed out.
