Ryan was running on the treadmill, enjoying the burn of a decent incline. He'd been busy and not been to the gym nearly enough. He wasn't paying attention to anybody else in the gym, in fact he couldn't even tell you if there was anybody else in the gym. That was another reason he liked running. It calmed the mind.

Mac had finished packing for shore leave. He had one stop to make and then he'd be heading to Earth to join Soral and Alex. He was tired and hadn't been sleeping well so he decided to head to the gym. As he approached the treadmills he was surprised to see the doctor. "Hi Doc."

Ryan cracked a small grin. Sometimes he wondered if people realized he actually had a name. He didn't mind per-say. His whole life was being a doctor after all. But sometimes... "Hello Lieutenant Mackenzie." He nodded, and though he was covered in sweat, he wasn't out of breath.

"Just call me Mac." He said as he set the controls for the treadmill.

"Ryan, please." He offered in reply with a polite smile. "Any plans for our upcoming shore leave?"l

"Absolutely. I'm heading to Earth. Soral and Alex are having a family wedding and after that I probably will rest a while. How about yourself?"

"I am going to sleep the entire time." Ryan teased. He'd been tempted to head to Earth as well. He knew Jack and Beverly would dote on him, but he needed some down time. Time for self reflection and to decide what he really wanted to do, free of the occasionally suffocating if well meant help from his adoptive parents. "But if you'd be willing. I'd like to send a wedding present for them along with you?"

"Of course. My understanding is Soral will have a reception here for the crew as well when they are back. To make it all public." He laughed. "Not that 90% of the crew doesn't know. It's kind of obvious."

Ryan chuckled at that. "It's just a bit obvious." He had to agree. "A wedding and some rest sounds like a perfect shore leave though."

He smiled. "What about Risa? I hear there is a transport leaving from the station for Risa. Why don't you go and rest."

"I'll consider that." Ryan smiled. He slowed the treadmill, starting his cool down.

"I know Grol is heading there." He grinned. "Hard to believe he ever rests." He paused. "So doc. Tell me about yourself a little."

Ryan gave a quick snort. "Yes, his picture should be in the dictionary under work a holic." He wiped his face with a small hand towel. "Ummm." Ryan floundered for a moment. He was horrible at this particular small talk question. "Well I enjoy the piano and charcoal drawing. I'm afraid my workload doesn't permit me much time for either."

"Well how about now that we are on leave?"

"I'll definitely be taking time off the ship. I'm just not sure if I'll go anywhere yet. "When you are back, we really need to get more gym time in. We are getting a second doctor, which will be great for the crew and me."

"A second doctor makes sense. We have sure had our fair share of issues." He paused. "How is our Orion friend?"

"I don't know." Ryan sighed. "I don't know if we are going to be able to help. The starbase would be the best place for him. They have the resources to help him recover, if he can. I hope he can."

"I as well." He paused. "Doc can I make a personal observation?"

"Um sure." Ryan answered. Not really knowing what to expect.

"You have a kind heart doctor. Don't ever change."

Ryan blushed a tad. "Uhh well thank you." He smiled at Mac. "Enjoy the wedding."

"Thank you. I am curious what did you get them?"

Ryan trusted Mac not to tell Soral and Alex, and really it wouldn't be the end of the world if he did. "A Vulcan cactus. I know it's rather a human custom, a plant as a house warming gift. I figured a marriage is meant to be building a home together, so it would fit."

"Actually it's perfect. Soral is a Cactus person and the symbolism is perfect." He smiled. "Well I should get going." He turned down the treadmill. "I'll pick up the plant after lunch?"

"Perfect." Ryan replied, waving at Mac. He still had more workout planned, so remained in the gym.
