Soral, true to his word made his way to sickbay. The call from the Chief was not particularly amusing, the call from the EMH that followed was irritating. The CMO being completely absent from the mix was questionable. He wondered if he should perhaps speak to the crew about discipline.
Nonetheless the words 'crew's mental health' had been used and those could not be ignored. He strolled into sickbay, a blank data PaDD in his hand. He walked over to the three who were just finishing up. "Well?" He asked. "What is this mental health issue for the crew that you three wished to discuss?"
Ryan had come back from his momentary surprise. "I apologize sir. We were discussing starting up a comedy night at the lounge, and planned on bringing the idea to you. It didn't need to be now though. Chief Eyelaya just got a little excited about the idea." He tried to cover for the woman, and hoped the whole thing wouldn't blow up in their face.
"I see." Soral said. As the doctor had spoken an idea had formed in his mind. One that would be both admonishment and benefit. "Comedy night, important to the mental health and well-being of the crew." He walked over to a chair and easily lifted it bringing it to rest in front of the three. He sat down and turned on his PaDD. "Very well gentleman and Chief. Comedy Night. Explain."
Ryan had hoped to have time to prepare a proper proposal, something the Vulcan could see as logical for the crew's well being. The man was not a machine, and even the machine in the room recognized the need for the crew to have a social outlet. "Well sir, having a social outlet is vital for the crew's mental well being. It also helps form bonds among the crew. Having something to look forward to can also help with meeting goals. If I finish this report on time, I can relax with everybody in the lounge type thing."
"I see." He stood. "Very well. I will give you the comedy night. But before it is finalized I will need to see a detailed proposal. How it would work, the frequency, the organizations structure, items such as these. Perhaps in a weeks time?"
Well that had gone better than expected Ryan thought. "Yes of course. I'll get that put together for you."
"Excellent." He took the chair back to its original location and then returned to stand in front of the three. "In fact your... enthusiasm and willingness to take responsibility for the crew's wellbeing has inspired an idea of my own."
"Oh?" Ryan was honestly curious as to what the XO had thought up.
He raised a delicate eyebrow. "Computer open records for Doctor Rose, Chief Petty Officer Eyelaya, and Doctor Emerick. In addition to their roles and responsibilities and ranking add a secondary note. At this date, at this time and by the order of the Executive Officer they are hereby granted titles and roles as joint Moral and vital information officers. Duties will include the forming of and maintaining of a social and moral committee tasked with providing off hours events to support the mental wellbeing of the crew. They will, every third week of the month, have a standing one hour appointment with me, location to be determined, and present me with the following months activities as well as an update on crew moral. They will be tasked with delivering statistics on events and coming up with new and creative ways to assist the crew and raise moral and promote crew readiness. They will attend and heavily socialize with the crew, All three." He said looking at Eyelaya. "Close annotation." He turned to the three. "In addition to your report on Comedy night I would like you to prepare and deliver a series of lectures on the importance of crew discipline and proper protocol when it comes to rank and responsibility. I trust that all is in order?"
Ryan tensed up, his arms going protectively around himself. He caught the gesture though, and moved them back to his side. "Yes sir, understood." He would speak up for Eyelaya, but since the three of them had been thrown into this together, it didn't seem necessary. He just looked to Eyelaya, hoping she wouldn't stick her foot in her mouth in front of the XO.
Soral gave a nod. "Excellent. I'll arrange a space for you to use and I trust, Chief, you will ensure holo emitters are installed for Doctor Emerick."
Eyelaya looked at Ryan. This was going way beyond what she thought. "I... yes sir."
"We shall see how the next two months go and perhaps we can open the committee up to Volunteer positions. But for now you have much work to do. This has been a productive meeting." He gave a bow of his head. "Good day." He turned and headed out.
"I think we just got sent to detention and denied dinner." Ryan commented. He wouldn't complain, but his plate was already full. Adding this responsibility to his many others was going to be a challenge.
Eyelaya looked up at the two. "What just happened....this feels more like a punishment!"
Ryan chuckled. "You started it." He smiled at Eyelaya to show he was teasing, but then he turned his attention to Emerick. "I am actually going to need help with the logistics."
She sighed, "I should do a lot of the work, I got us into this...although hey the Comedy night is on."
"I'm going to see about getting myself deleted" commented Emerick.
"Nice try." Ryan chuckled. "Ok, I can start on the basic proposal." He turned to Eyelaya. "Do you think you could question a few of the enlisted crew, see if they even like the idea of a comedy night, as well as get some other ideas for activities they'd like to see offered?"
She gave a nod. "I can try." She looked at Emerick and then back to Ryan. "I am not good with non synthetics. I'm not exactly the most social of people." She sighed. "I will also see what this place is the commander was speaking of and make sure holo emitters are installed."
"Alright, that's a great place to start." Ryan smiled with encouragement at Eyelaya. This might be just what the Chief needed to start coming out of her shell. Ryan hoped anyway.
"Right" said Emerick. "I do believe my work here is done, I see no medical emergency" he added with a slight nod. "Computer, deactivate the emergency medical hologram" he said aloud. The computer of course followed that request through. Emerick quickly disappeared, leaving the others.
Ryan chuckled. "Chicken." He said to Eyelaya.
Eyelaya smiled, "I wish I could do that." She sighed. "Alright well we meet tomorrow?"
Ryan nodded. "Sounds good." He stepped back a bit more, but before letting her go asked. "So how do you feel? Any pain?"
She smiled. "Nope. All better." There was a pause. "Thanks Doctor Rose."
