Autopsy

Posted on Sunday, 16 August 2020 - 3:19pm by Captain Barret Stillwater & Lieutenant Ryan Rose MD & Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali

Mission: Operation: Jabberwocky
Location: USS Monarch - Sickbay - Operating Room

Sickbay

Arriving in Sickbay a matter of minutes later T’Lanna looked at Ryan. “I’m not normally the squeamish type, but I’m not promising how strong stomached I’ll be when we see autopsy this body! Being pregnant doesn’t help in that department, at least I’m not far off the end of the sickness stage.”

"I can call up the EMH," Ryan offered. "But if you want to take notes?"

T'Lanna nodded and smiled. "I'd appreciate that, thanks Ryan." She picked up a nearby PADD and prepared it for use.

Autopsies were certainly not his favorite. He preferred things when he could actually still make a difference. But as any doctor, he was trained in how to properly perform one. Hopefully they would gain some insight after autopsying the body the away team had discovered.

“Computer ... activate EMH” T’Lanna stood waiting for the timely arrival of this ship’s EMH

“Please state the nature of the medical emergency?” The EMH looked at T’Lanna and Ryan waiting for an answer.

“There’s no emergency” She offered a smiled. “Doctor Rose requires assistance with an autopsy.”

Ryan wasn't surprised when he didn't immediately recognize the species. The EMH however did. With the Drai at least identified, he continued with the autopsy. "Cause of death was definitely exposure. The vacuum of the air lock preserved him well."

T'Lanna nodded as she made comprehensive notes for Ryan. "I think I've read about the Drai, I'll have to check the records again."

"I don't think I've heard of them." Ryan replied. "Looks like we'll have some research ahead of us."

“Indeed” T’Lanna nodded. “I’m not even sure where I’ve read about them but the name sounds familiar.”

The actual autopsy was a rather simple affair. Ryan was grateful for T'Lanna's help. He could call out interesting things he wanted to go over later, where he could nit pick the scans, or zoom in with the holo recording that was going on. "Well. I think I have everything here." Ryan respectfully covered the body back up and had it sealed.

“Good I’ve got your notes right here” T’Lanna smiled as she handed over the PADD for Ryan to look at. “It’s just research into his species now and we can provide Captain Stillwater with the details.

"thank you. I'll be in the office." Ryan took the PaDD.

=Bridge=

Commander Stillwater accessed the ship's comm, routing it to Sickbay to the Chief Medical Officer's office. "Bridge to Sickbay, the away team reports they should be ready to head back soon. Do you have any indication of the identity of the corpse that Lieutenant Commander Victrix located in the maintenance chute?" inquired Stillwater.

"I'll send the full autopsy report sir, but no specific identity. He is Drai though." Ryan tapped a few buttons to send over the report.

"I look forwarding to reading it," replied Stillwater. "Drai?" he muttered to himself but audible over the comm. "That's a Gamma quadrant species, is it not, Doctor?"

"Yes sir. Known to be hunters. There's only a handful of reports on them." Ryan didn't have much info beyond that. Only physical information from the autopsy.

Stillwater wrestled with that information for a moment. "Yes, that are known to be hunters. An enticing offer this transmission was to partake in a great galactic hunt. Though the Drai or anyone from the Gamma Quadrant is not permitted to travel through Federation space so freely. They would have had to stop at port, and coming from the Gamma quadrant that would lend an idea of where they have been. Stillwater out."

Commander Stillwater rose from his chair and tapped his commbadge "Stillwater to Lieutenant Vali," he said looking to connect with the Standing Bear's Psychologist who assisted in intelligence matters. "Dr. Rose has briefed me on his findings and the identity of our friend. A Drai?! That was not what I was expecting to hear. I would like for you to contact Deep Space Nine. Check with them in regards to any Drai ships that docked at the station in past weeks."

“I was surprised myself Sir” T’Lanna looked at a PADD that she had before her, she’d taken over the ACMO’s office for the short term. “I’ll contact DS9 right away.”

"Thank You, Lieutenant. Stillwater out."

T’Lanna wasted no time in requesting a channel be opened to DS9. She smiled politely as a friendly face greeted her.

“What can I do for you Lieutenant Vali?”

“Actually I was hoping you’d be able to tell me if you’ve had any Drai visitors to the station lately?” T’Lanna looked curiously at the Officer on the other end.

“Actually ...” the young woman looked at the readouts she was getting on her end. “We did ... there was a Drai vessel that came through the wormhole and asked for clearance to dock. They stayed with us for a few days. There was a Klingon diplomat that boarded the ship, the ship was granted approval to travel to their destination under the restriction they checked in at stations and ports along the way, but they failed to report at their most recent.”

T’Lanna nodded. “Thank you Lieutenant that’s just what I needed. I’ll relay the information to Captain Stillwater.” Closing the channel she tapped her comm badge. “Vali to Stillwater, I have some news from DS9 Sir.”

"Benefits of being close to a communications relay station" he joked. "Fast response. What do you have for me, lieutenant?"

"It seems there was a Drai vessel that docked at DS9. They stayed for a few days. A Klingon diplomat boarded the ship, which was granted approval to travel to their destination under the restriction they checked in at stations and ports along the way, but they failed to report at their most recent.” She put down the PADD she was holding.

"Peculiar," replied Stillwater. "Please check with DS9 on the identity of the Klingon diplomat. Then, I'll see about getting in touch with the Klingon High Council. Perhaps they can shed some light on the situation. Thank you, lieutenant."

“Aye Sir” T’Lanna nodded even though he couldn’t see her. “I’ll get in it now.”
