ON:

Mac entered the lounge, not surprised to see Alex there. He picked up his tray of food and headed that way. "Can I sit?"

Looking up from the food she had been pushing around her plate, Alex gesture to the vacant seat. “Help yourself. I’m terrible company though...” she frowned. “Since I heard no alarms, I assume you didn’t have to shoot my husband?”

He smiled, "No but I still owe him for the neck pinch." He sighed. "How are you doing?"

Such a simple question. "Honestly? I don't know. I thought food might help but there is not enough chocolate content in pasta and if I go all in with a triple chocolate cake, I'll be in a diabetic coma by the time we need to leave in the morning. Is Soral back home?"

While she was furious with him, she was still concerned.

"Yes. He requested some doctors from Vulcan to help Haru and one of them checked him over. I figured better a Vulcan doctor who knew his way around a Vulcan system. He will need a few treatments but will be alright. The doctor was very cross in a Vulcan way that he never allowed his body to heal after all the injuries." He paused. "He loves you Alex, very much."

Alex stabbed her fork into a defenceless piece of pasta. Everyone seemed to be using it in his defence. "I'm hearing that a lot. Did Soral send a memo or did he go all out and make t-shirts?"

He sighed. "Alex listen he told me what he did. In his defence he's an idiot. That aside he's new at this. He's lived his whole life being abandoned and hurt so he's used to doing things his way. You're the one person he want's to hold onto, the one person he couldn't bare to have abandon him so he's keeping you in the dark."

Another helpless piece of penne died for that one. "I get it, you are his friend," she said evenly as she pushed her plate away, appetite gone, "but no."

"No what?"

“No to blindly excusing his behaviour because he loves me,” she clarified.

"Oh that, you have every right to be mad. But...if I may make an observation. You have to talk, the two of you. Your communication is horrible. You can do that by hitting him where it hurts, in his Vulcan honour."

“I don’t understand,” she admitted.

"Tell him that you will not settle for him keeping things from you and you want absolute candor and you demand this oath as the son of a Quwat Milat member and as a Vulcan." He grinned. "No way he can say no."

“So he can say one thing and carry on regardless? Mac, he has been hiding things, lying to me ... what does that say about our marriage? He doesn’t trust me enough to be honest with me.”

"Actually he can't carry on if you get him where his honour is. A promise is a promise...why do you think that I live in fear of Haru ever asking, 'does this make me look fat'. He has horrible taste." He smiled.

A small smile played on her lips.

"As for the other part of things he does trust you. Let me ask you are you being honest with him? Have you told him everything about your bond and how losing it makes you feel? Have you told him everything about your fears about the marriage?"

She frowned, “my fears about our marriage?”

"About the bond loss about how you feel when he hides things from you, about how you feel he doesn't trust you."

“I fear about our marriage now, yesterday I didn’t,” Alex quipped. “Yesterday I didn’t know he was hiding so much. If he trusted and respected me, I would have known he was unwell. He would have told me. And he sure as hell wouldn’t have decided we would have a baby to replace our bond. You think this is my fault?”

"No. I didn't say that Alex. I am saying that it takes two to break things and it takes two to fix them. The question you have to ask is do you want to fix it?"

“One person can break things just fine,” Alex muttered. “And I don’t know. I need time, Mac.”

He gave a nod. "Fair enough. But before you put the full blame on him you must ask yourself who did what." He sighed. "You don't have to be honest with me but be honest with yourself. The only part you have to worry about now is if you want to fix things and if this marriage is worth it." He covered her hand. "Since Haru and I are not moved in officially yet the quarters are yours if you want them back."

“No, they are yours,” she assured him. “I have some things to do in the lab and then I’ll find somewhere to grab a few hours sleep.”

"Alex, I'll be spending the night on the station. Take the quarters. I promise I will look in on Soral."

She nodded, “thanks.”

He stood. "Well I should go. I promised Soral that I would take Bones for a walk...and to show Haru. He loves dogs may help."

“Tell Haru I said hi and don’t let Bones’ sad eyes guilt you into feeding him extra treats,” she warned.

He laughed. "He is getting kind of chunky." He gave her shoulder a squeeze. "It will all work out."

“See you in the morning,” she smiled, waiting a second before calling after him, “and don’t be late!”
