Travels, headaches and a homeless Doctor

Mission: Operation: Overdrive
Location: USS Fontana| Sickbay

Traveling through slipstream had a particular feel to it. Ryan didn't find it particularly unpleasant, but he'd seen more patients with complaints of vague nausea since they started their trip to the Camelot. He'd managed to settle some stomachs, and update all crew's medical records. Now he was having dinner at his desk while he watched an old animated movie. A simple turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato along with an apple. There was no one here to judge his taste in dinner or movies, and Emerick couldn't complain that he wasn't relaxing.

Soral had felt unsettled for a few nights now. He had finally decided to seek help. He'd thought to call the doctor and asked for his location to find it to be sickbay. He had made his way to a quiet sickbay and then to the doctor's office. He remembered that that doctor kept an open door policy so he just walked in stopping short and taking in the sight of the doctor.

Ryan had just taken a bit of sandwich as a funny part of the movie started. So the XO caught him both mid bite and mid chuckle. Ryan quickly finished his bite, and muted the movie, then stood. "Good evening sir. What can I do for you?" He asked.

Soral raised an eyebrow. "Doctor, Is everything alright?"

Ryan looked down at himself. Other than a small bit of tomato that was now on his tshirt, everything appeared to be in order. "Yes." He quickly checked the ship's real time medical logs. There was nothing going on. "What's wrong?" Ryan asked. Something was apparently up if the XO was showing up in his office well after the end of Alpha Shift.

His raised eyebrow did not let up. "The office looks...quite lived in." He said. "I require your assistance with something."

"Oh, sorry." Ryan started picking up. He was by no means a slob, but Soral was correct. The place looked like, well like exactly what was happening. Ryan was living out of his office. "What can I help with?" Ryan asked, moving a uniform jacket off the back of the chair across from his desk and placing it on the replicator to be recycled.

Soral gestured to the office. "We shall come back to this." He sighed. "I need you to do a detailed scan of my mind."

Ryan immediately stopped picking up. "Ok, what have you been experiencing to lead to that need?"

There was silence as Soral composed his thoughts. "Dreams. I have always had dreams but...as of late something is different. When I wake it is with sever pain in the lower cranial section. As you know Vulcans are telepathic. When we mind meld, when we communicate telepathically there is a feeling of heaviness, not pain, just heaviness this is... similar. It could be nothing but I wonder as it leaves a disorientation and there is a vividness to them that...is hard to explain." He noted the room one more time. His mind was able to multi task on his problem as well as the doctors. He'd heard rumours from the staff about the doctor spending a lot of time here.

"Ok." Ryan grabbed his medical tricorder, but continued questioning instead of going straight for the scanner. "Have you been doing anything differently than normal? Eating, drinking, recreationally? Have you participated in any mind melds?" Was the first set of questions Ryan could think of.

He looked uncomfortable. "No to eating or drinking, recreationally...perhaps. I..." He shifted uncomfortably. "I was.. that is I have spent a few nights, before we left, with a Vulcan woman. A part of the...um.. intimacy is that of the mind."

"A mind meld during the act of intimacy?" Ryan asked straight forward. "Or something similar?" He probed from clarification.

"Vulcans mind meld to share emotions. It is common and I do not believe had anything to do with what I am feeling now."

"I know you are not due for your Pon'farr, but was she?" Ryan asked, one last question to rule out that line of inquiry.

"No I do not believe so. She would have said something." He studied the doctor. "Before the exam is conducted I wish to speak to you about something."

Ryan was just about to start his scans, but paused. "Ofcourse. What did you need to speak to me about."

"The... state of your office, the fact that you were eating dinner there and the talk of several officers of this being a pattern leads me to believe that there is something that is occurring."

Ryan stood there, a bit surprised. The man was having possible medical issues of some sort with his brain, and was worried about Ryan's office and a gossiping medical staff? He decided to come clean and hopefully hurry the conversation along so he could get to treating the XO. "Sam and I decided to separate. I meant to talk to you about housing arrangements, but it just never seemed like a good time." He ran a hand through his hair a bit nervously. "I can sleep anywhere, it's not a big deal."

"Nonetheless you are the CMO and you require rest, proper rest." He thought a moment. "I am sorry about the separation. I know that it cannot be easy. I can offer you some advice to perhaps go and speak with our Ship's Psychologist perhaps...couple therapy? As to the living situation I can offer a few more suggestions on that as well."

"Alright. Let me take care of these scans and you can offer your suggestions. Let's head to a private room." Ryan led the way out of his office, wanting a place with a more robust scanner than his personal medical tricorder could provide.

He followed. "I would prefer to get that settled though. You have two options. I can assign you a NCO roommate as we have plenty of space there or I can give you the Chief Science Officer's quarters temporarily. But given that your wife is an NCO she will have to move out eventually as the quarters you are occupying now are senior officers quarters."

Ryan walked the short distance to a private room and began setting things up. "I don't want a roommate. I was hoping not to kick Sam out of the quarters, but you're right she will need to eventually. I suppose I can take the Chief Science Officer's quarters for a short time, until I can talk to Sam and see where she would like to go." Ryan indicated the bio bed. "If you could just have a seat."

"Might I suggest one more thing," he said sitting down on the bio bed.

Ryan started up the scanner, then nodded at Soral. "Go ahead."

"If you would like to seek revenge I can assign your wife to be roommates with Chie Eyelaya." It was an attempt at a joke that he hoped would cheer up the doctor.

"I don't want revenge against Sam. She hasn't done anything. We're actually getting along a lot better now." Obviously, the idea had been the XOs idea of a joke....but "The two might actually get along."

"Ah...then an abandon ship order might have to be given. I see your logic." Soral had laid back and allowed the scan to work.

Ryan let his mouth quirk into a grin at that. Ok, so the Vulcan could be a bit funny. He was a bit zealous with the number of scans he ran, but he'd rather be thorough than miss something. Once done, he pulled the results up on a screen for the XO to see. He pointed to an area of Soral's brain, that was lit up more than normal. "This is your telepathic region. It's showing increased activity." He put it in layman's terms for Soral. "If I had to guess, I'd say it's sore for lack of a better word. Like overworking your legs during a workout. The dreams and accompanied headache are most likely part of the healing process. I'd like to keep an eye on it, and I'd recommend taking it easy on the telepathy."

He gave a nod. "Understood." He raised an eyebrow. "I should increase my meditation as well." He studied the image. "How often would you like to follow up?"

"Meditation couldn't hurt." Ryan agreed. "I'd like to see you again in 48 hours, and then we can go from there. I'll have a better idea after a new set of scans in a couple of days."

He gave a nod. "Do you have an empty PaDD"

"Sure." It took Ryan only a moment to head to the bulkhead and open up a recessed storage unit. He pulled out an empty PaDD and handed it to Soral.

Sorel made some annotations. "These are the unlock codes and location of the chief science officers quarters. You can set your own code from there. I will also make someone from Ops available to you to assist with moving your belongings." He thought a moment. "I believe that Emerick is a capable doctor?"

"Thank you. Yes, Emerick is very capable. Did you want a second opinion on your scans?" Ryan asked, not offended just curious.

"No. Leave him in charge for the next 24 hours. You must rest. That is an order."

Ryan wanted to protest. He was more rested now than he had been since he arrived on board. But the XO had ordered. "Yes sir. Though if you have any sudden headaches, or they intensify, please let me know."

"I will." He started walking away and then stopped and turned. "If you wish to talk. I am available."

"Thank you sir. I'm fine, really, and I appreciate the new quarters."
