Mission:
Operation: Trail of Tears
Location: Mess Hall
ON:
T'Paris stretched languidly in her bed. She knew something that that the red head didn't. T'Paris had dug and dug and called in favours and had managed to find something out that she may use to ensure the human got a run for her money. She would enjoy the bit of sport and in the end Soral would be hers. Now that she knew the bond was broken thing would be a lot easier.
T'Paris showered, dressed and headed to the mess hall.
After a brief detour to ensure her experiments were behaving themselves, which amazingly did not always happen, Lieutenant Kingsley had decided to find some hot chocolate. Drink in hand, she had found a quiet corner so she could sit at stare out into space lost in her own thoughts for a few minutes before she headed back to the Bridge. As the doors to the mess hall opened she glanced over her shoulder out of habit, groaning inwardly before turning her attention back towards the view. She had deliberately stayed away from the Vulcan woman who had just entered, sure her temper would get the better of her if she had crossed her path too soon after Soral's injuries led him to be confined to Sickbay.
T'Paris spied her rival. She headed to the replicator and got a tea. After a moment's debate she headed over to Alexandra. "Hello Lieutenant."
"Good morning," Alex replied with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. "Is there something I can do for you?"
"Not at all. I was just on my way to Commander Soral's meditation class and saw you here. I thought that I would say hi. You must be under a lot of stress with everything that's happened."
"How thoughtful. I'm not sure what you mean but I hope you enjoy your class," Alex offered, hoping it would be enough to encourage the woman to move on. Soral had talked of restarting his class, hoping she imagined, to help him with his own meditation.
"Well I mean in terms of the commander being hurt." She paused. "I must say there are still more interesting things to come."
Don’t bite... don’t ... “Meaning?” Why, she chided herself. Why?!
"Well you are a wife of a Vulcan. When the commander's... time comes the bond is the only thing that can save him. I assume you have done your research on that."
“You are way out of line,” Alex snapped as she stood. What did this woman know about their bond anyhow?! “And not for the first time.”
"Apologies I meant no disrespect. I just meant that Vulcan males go through Pon Farr...the rumour is that the commanders is coming. Mine was simply...to ensure the commander doesn't die because his wife doesn't know... how to tame his blood fever."
If looks could kill, T’Paris would have been dead and buried. But she had struck a nerve. “As a Vulcan you appreciate such things should not be discussed in a mess hall,” she said quietly, although the woman would hear perfectly well, “and I would have thought petty gossip was beneath you. Apparently not. I suggest you go and stop spending so much time thinking of my husband.”
"Someone has to." She turned having scored and left.
Mac who'd witnessed the war stepped up to Alex. "Okay. Just breathe."
Alex has taken a step, ready to throttle the woman when Mac appeared. Blocking her path and ensuring the annoyance that was T’Paris slip out of the mess hall in one piece. “I am going to klll her,” Alex fumed under her breath.
"I gathered that. If I'd allowed it your husband would kick my ass." He steered her to the table. "I told you that one was going to be tricky."
“Tricky?” Just thinking about it made her turn on her heels ready to storm after her. “She is impossible!”
Mac grabbed her arm. "Alright...sit down. Tell me all that happened."
After a moment she relented and sank back into her seat. “She basically said that I wouldn’t be able to help Soral when ... you know, things happen to him... because we don’t have our bond. That I wouldn’t be able to tame him. He isn’t a wild animal, Mac.”
"Well actually Vulcans ... do tend to go wild during that time. But you will have no problem taming him. You've already got him wrapped around your finger." He smiled. "The bond is important but...it will come I am sure it will come back long before that time."
“And if it doesn’t?” She challenged, mindful to keep her voice low. “Dr Rose said it is too soon, he’ll scan again in four weeks. Mac, it could be months. What if we don’t have month? The twins are seven, Mac.”
"Yeah....I know. I kind of did the math." He sighed. "Okay well don't panic. There are ways...around this. We need to speak to someone who knows more about .... Vulcan biology."
“Vulcans are pretty private about the whole thing,” she pointed out. “And T’Paris? She’d probably lie through her teeth.”
"There is one more alternative. Someone who has lived on Vulcan a long time. Eyelaya"
“The engineer?”
"Yup. She lived there, studied there, and she knows just about everything. Didn't she give you that book on Vulcan culture?"
"Yeah but they didn't go into massive detail about this and Soral and I had our bond. I never imagined it might not be there -" she felt entire idiotic and lost. "What if this hurts him even more, Mac? I need to find a way to sort out whatever is wrong with my head..."
"Alex, relax...oh my Gods! Haru is part Vulcan. He's talking now...although a little difficult he could help us."
"I couldn't put more stress on him," Alex said with a shake of her head. "He's going through enough."
"He'll want to help Alex." He touched her hand. "I do too. Soral is like a brother to us both and that makes you family."
"Okay," she said after a long moment. "Lets see if Haru knows anything that might help before T'Paris really annoys me."
He laughed. "There is also something else to consider."
“Other than my lack of knowledge?”
"Evesta, the mother of Soval and Severine. She had no bond with Soral yet she...satisfied his Pon Farr."
“I try not to imagine my husband gathering children with another woman,” Alex commented dryly. “It kind of kills the romance, you know?”
He laughed. "I'm just saying it could be done. So T'Paris is....just trying to get under your skin."
“Maybe there was a bond and he just didn’t realise it? Ours wasn’t exactly planned,” she pointed out. “Okay, lets go, I don’t really want to be talking about any of this in the mess hall.”
Mac put his arm around her. "Let's go."
