Starbase 21: Habitat Area – Oriana’s quarters

The day had started out interesting. Oriana couldn’t get her mind off of the face of that mysterious person with the warm hands and the gentle green eyes. She had eaten breakfast, gone to her assigned quarters and then all hell seemed to break loose. She slipped and fell twice, found out that she’d grabbed the wrong bag from the shuttle which involved a good four hours of chasing the person that had taken her bag. When she did finally get it back, she realized that her camera was broken and that a drink she’d had stashed in the bag had spilled all over her clothing.

If that wasn’t bad enough her shower broke when she was in the middle of the shower and she’d had a mild allergic reaction to something she’d eaten for lunch.

Oriana groaned as she now lay back on the sofa in her quarters. “What else could go wrong?”

As if the universe had decided to answer her question the terminal on the little work desk chirped. She eyed it with trepidation. A wave of unease washed over her. “Well, there is no point in prolonging things,” She said as she stood. Walking over to the station she sat down and adjusted the chair. The message was from the station CO.

Ensign Sety,

I wish to thank you for agreeing to come on such short notice to take up the Assistant post on this station. My current Assistant was supposed to be taking three weeks off due to a medical condition however due to a mix up of test results we found out that the condition is not an issue anymore.

I regret that this contract has been cancelled. I have arranged for you to stay with your full meals and stay compensated for the next two weeks at the end of which, I am assured, you will know what your final placement is.

I wish you luck with your career in Starfleet and once again my apologies for the mix up.

Oriana Skye stared at the screen. She groaned out loud. The day had gone from bad to worse. She was now left with two weeks of doing nothing. The job she looked forward to had been cancelled and she felt as if things were unraveling, yet her stay was compensated…perhaps the Goddess of Fate had wanted her here.

Standing she headed to change into the only clothing that had survived the spilled drink. Perhaps a walk down the promenade would lift her spirits. She had time so tomorrow she would think about what she could do until her fate was decided by the brass and her new assignment was revealed but tonight, she would try to clear her mind. She wondered if the station had an arboretum, flowers always made her feel better.

Starbase 21: Promenade

The promenade was filled with people walking around and the shops seemed to be open late into the evening. That was dangerous to her credits considering her fondness for pretty things. As if to emphasize that she entered a dress shop and for some reason walked out with a teal dress that reminded her of the waves on Narin Nine.

As she walked along the promenade again a sign caught her attention.

Grand opening of the Dark Angel dance club. Level 22, tonight 2200 hours

It had been a long time she attended the opening of a dance club. She wondered what music would be played and if there would be lots of people. Feeling pulled to it Oriana decided to head home, change, and try out this new dance club. Perhaps it would get her mind off of her day and lift her spirits. Dancing always tended to do that.

One hour later she was strolling through deck 22 heading towards the dance club. She was still a way’s away but could hear the heart pumping music. She had opted to dress up a little tonight in the new dress that had seemed to call to her. A long teal dress that seemed to hug ever curve of her body and a shawl to cover any scandalous parts, and there were a few. She’d done a blue themed smokey eye and selected an outrageously dark lipstick letting her hair fall loos in its naturally wavy fashion.

She had been happy by the effect, the only down side was the heals that seemed to be trying to murder her feet but they did look great. Oriana had always been a girly girl and pain in the name of looking like a knockout was permitted.

Smiling she approached the door and let out a chuckle. It figures that after all this time Earth Techno music survived and thrived. Grinning at her thoughts she entered through the heavy doors that parted at her approach.

She stopped and looked around. “Well! This is interesting!” The air was positively charged. Dancing, swaying, and gyrating bodies filled the room. Strobe lights flashed in all colours covering the dark tritanium walls and the music seemed to make the floor and the entire room vibrate. She had the sudden urge to cover her ears but hey, she was here.

Oriana walked around being careful to maneuver around dancing people and headed towards the bar that seemed so out of place. It resembled more a tiki bar that belonged in the tropical club. She did notice something else as she sat down on the rounded bar stools, the people in here were masked.

“What are you having?” The bartender asked.

She looked up, “Give me something blue,” She said. “This is a mascaraed?”

The bar tender, having gotten a better look at the woman smiled, “Sure is. I have all the masks here.” He filled a drink that seemed to shimmer in various blues, “It’s called a Oceanic tornado.” He slid the glass to her and took out a box of masks that he also offered her.

She waved her hand away, “Yes to the drink, no to the masks.”

She sat back looking around the joint. It all seemed very mystical, very interesting especially with the smoke rising on the dance floor and the song Angel of Darknes playing in the background. She wondered who she would meet tonight. The air felt positively charged with possibilities.
