Starbase 21: Habitat Ring

Hayashi sat in the little groove by the window thinking. The stars seemed restless in their twinkling and the previous night's meditation session had been disturbed by a wild flame of a candle that seemed to have a mind of its own. When this happened it usually foretold of a change that was coming and sometimes those changes tended to be a little hard to take. This time...it felt different. Almost fated and Hayashi was not one to believe in fate.

Sighing Hayashi got up. “I can’t stay here all day, I guess. Work has to be done.” Standing, Hayashi stretched aching muscles and then stripping along the way headed to the shower. The best place to take a shower was on a starbase because of the length of stay most of the inhabitants were afforded water showers and it was a luxury that Hayashi appreciated but would trade in a heartbeat to be in a star sailing ship.

Smiling Hayashi got in the shower, a quick one today that lasted mere minutes and had Hayashi hurrying into uniform and out the door. Since time was of the essence breakfast would have to be consumed on the way, purchased from one of the many promenade shops or cart vendors. Maybe...a burrito!

Starbase 21: Shuttle doc

Oriana Skye looked around in awe as she stepped out of the shuttle and onto the promenade. This place was…massive, at least compared to the place she’d come from. She smiled a little as she hefted her bag over her shoulder. This was a new beginning for her and she couldn’t help but sense a little bit of destiny in the first mini assignment she’d been given.

She wouldn’t be here permanently but for a few weeks this would be her home. The current assistant for the CO of the starbase was on medical leave, or rather would be going soon and Oriana would fill in before her permanent post was finalized. The moment she’d heard that she’d be at Starbase 21 she had felt a certainty and an excitement that usually meant that something monumental was going to happen. She had these foreshadowing feelings often and they hadn’t failed her yet.

She wondered what the day would bring. As she walked to the check in counter, she took in all the details of the area.

“Name, rank, business.”

She raised an eyebrow at the curmudgeonly Lieutenant that had spoken. “Ensign Oriana Skye Sety, reporting for the captain. I’m the new temporary Yeoman or Assistant...depending on what you wanted to call the role.”

The man took her data PaDD and examined her orders. He sighed as if this whole thing bothered him and tossed her PaDD on a pile of others. He pulled a new one and downloaded some data handing it her. “Your quarters assignment, station map, duty schedule beginning tomorrow afternoon for orientation and codes for replication and credit disbursement.”

“Thank you,” She said calmly.

“Yeah, keep it moving.”

“Hmm,” she said making a mental note to speak with the CO about the Lieutenant’s attitude. She thanked the man nonetheless, it would have been impolite to not do so, and she walked deeper into the belly of the station.

Starbase 21: Promenade

Oriana wasn’t much of a participator but she loved to people watch. So many expressions and so many stories that one could pull out of just looking at how people moved, spoke, smiled; she felt inspired. Perhaps tonight she would take her camera and take some images while things were winding down, a station at sunset of sorts project.

Smiling she headed towards the main area of the promenade. Succulent scents wafted her way and a low growl emanated from her stomach reminding her that she’d forgotten to eat. It had been difficult with the shuttle moving wildly and all. She blushed at the rumble, it was not a very lady like sound so she opted to follow the most mouth-watering scent. She would get breakfast and then she would explore her temporary quarters.

My, this is a popular stall she thought as she neared the mid room cart that seemed to be selling some sort of breakfast burrito. She would try it. Reaching for the premade roll, after reading the ingredients, her hand gently brushed another one that was warm and rough from hard work. She jumped back. “I’m sorry.” She turned her eyes up toward the owner of the hand and found that they connected with the greenest eyes she’d ever seen. They were almond shaped and had amber flakes sparkling at various points. They seemed to pull her in. They were new yet familiar, as if she’d seen them in the depths of her imagination or perhaps it had been a dream or divining session.

“Ah.”

The small gasp, the sound one would make after taking a refreshing drink, was emitted by owner of those stunning eyes and had her heart racing. He is handsome, Oriana thought.

Hayashi had been just about to pick up an egg burrito to run when their hands made contact; hers were soft and delicate. The small gasp that escaped suddenly dry lips was totally involuntary and an instant shot of awareness ran through Hayashi, something that rarely happened, all flirting aside. She’s beautiful. Hayashi thought and smiled a most dazzling smile saying, “Please, take it, I will take the next one. It’s…one of the best on the station.”

Smiling back Oriana picked up the burrito and held it out to the handsome figure standing before her, the one whose eyes mesmerized her, “You seem to be in a rush, you take it.”

Smiling Hayashi gave a nod. “How do you know I’m in a rush?” This blue eyed woman seemed like a girl worth being late for.

“You’re blushing as if you’d just run a marathon.” Grinning wickedly, Oriana took Hayashi's hand in hers and placed the burrito wrap in it. “Besides, giving it away gives me an excuse to touch your hand again. I very much enjoyed the first time our hands, accidentally touched.”

Hayashi watched as the woman blushed slightly and then turned away.

“Wait! What’s your name?” There was a desperation to the tone that came out that even Hayashi was able to pick up on. What the hell is going on with me? Why is my heart pounding like this?

Oriana turned, “Perhaps I will tell you if we meet again, if it is the will of the Goddess of Fate.” She turned, her hand tossing back her wavy hair and then she half turned so that her face was in profile. “Have a nice day.”

“Are you a guest here,” Hayashi called.

The woman stopped turned and smiled. “That depends, are you?”

Hayashi swallowed hard, “I’m an Engineer on the starbase.”

“So permanent. I may just have to be assigned here on a more permanent basis or perhaps I’ll leave it to the hands of fate.”

Hayashi watched as the woman walked away seeming to disappear into the crowd like a wizard. “Get it together Haya. You got to get to work.” Hayashi groaned and began to run. Yup, Hayashi thought. late again but this time the distraction was worth the lecture I’m going to get.
