Timeline: 2394 - Coupe Weeks Pre SB Arrival
ON:
Scarlet was in her formal uniform, her hat tucked under her arm, along with a notebook or two. She'd managed to get her hair into a neat bun and was now on her way to her interview.
Since she was early, she stopped by a small cafe like place on the station, grabbing a cup Camomile of tea to try and calm her nerves. She knew what she was going to say, she'd made notes for a reason. In her head, conversations had been rehearsed and yet she knew that they probably wouldn't pan out that way.
Tea in one hand, she found a small seating area with benches overlooking a view of the hustle and bustle of Station life. The ginger haired woman placed her notes and hat down next to her and watched the people go by, lost in thought, but conscious of time.
Hayashi had the day off so the morning routine consisted of exercise, a quick shower, changing into dress slacks and a casual shirt and heading to the prime location for people watching. The night before had been.... interesting. Now, left in its wake, was a stress that could not be shaken. Tea in hand Hayashi found a place on a bench and was only pulled from deep thoughts when a woman sat down just a few spaces away. A not so new face, one that had been in the Engineering department for medical upgrade parts. Hayashi had never spoken to her. "Hello there." Now as the perfect time to start.
Scarlet snapped out of her trance and smiled, "sorry, hi."
"You’re the young lady that works both in Engineering and Medical. Computer upgrades right?"
Scarlet nodded, "that's right. I'm in research and development for the medical field. I'm just installing a few of the specialist upgrades." Scarlet wasn't offended by the 'young lady' comment, she worked with doctors after all and she knew that it was never meant critically, after all, being ginger had its perks by having genetics that kept her looking young like her mother.
"I'm in Engineering,” Hayashi said putting on a dashing smile. "We haven't spoken before. I guess just busy on both ends. It's lovely to meet you." Taking in her outfit Hayashi said, "Well you look like you're meeting Admirals."
She smiled blushing a little, "sorry, if I'm working, I'm always focused. I never really notice anyone." She then looked down to her uniform, "close. I'm meeting two admirals, but also a load of professors. I'm interviewing for my PhD, so I have to look the part. I much prefer to be in my usual day to day uniform, or my lab coat."
"Well, it sounds like you have a busy day. Tell you what. I have the day off how about we grab coffee after your interview."
She considered it, but her mind was on Ryan. The woman hoped to contact him that evening, if she could. She blushed and replied honestly, "that's sweet, but my day is pretty booked up."
Hayashi smiled. "Ahhhh I can see it in your eyes. A woman in love. I guess I was a bit late in saying hello."
Scarlet blushed even more, "I'm not sure about love, but we had something intense, for maybe two weeks and then he was shipped out. We talk often though."
"A me thinks the lady doth protest too much. Your blush is quite telling." Hayashi studied her. "We've been talking all this time and I don't know your name. I'm Hamura"
Scarlet touched her cheek with the tip of her fingers, feeling how warm they were. She smiled, "I'm Scarlet, apparently in more ways than one."
Hayashi laughed. “Nice to meet you. May I offer a bit of advice with respect to your interview. Could make all the difference in the world.”
"I'll take any advice I can get," she replied with a chuckle, "as long as it doesn't involve 'do not blush' because I can't help that, I'm just a nervous person."
Hayashi chuckled again. “No, its not that, blushing becomes you. I mean you have something in your hair, you really should get it out before you go in. If you’ll permit?” Hayashi help up a hand.
Scarlet backed away a little, "the amount of effort it takes to get my hair this neat is just astronomical. I have very curly hair normally, but I straighten it and stuff. I'm petrified that one little touch and it will explode into chaos." She paused and touched his arm softly, "thank you though."
“Well alright…but don’t say I didn’t warn you. It’s sticking right out of the bun. It looks like a leaf…or plant.”
Scarlet reluctantly leant forward a bit, "fine, but be gentle."
Hayashi reached above her head and seemed to nod as if someone was there and then came back with a red rose. “See. Can’t go in with that in your hair.”
Scarlet blushed and chuckled. She didn't know what to say. It was cheesy, but sweet. "Wow," was all she managed before adding, "you have henchmen to help your game."
“Indeed, he does,” Said a voice from behind; a flower seller walking around.
Hayashi blushed a little. “Busted.” Standing Hayashi took her hand and kissed it. “It was lovely to meet you Miss Scarlet soon to be Doctor. When you are in engineering stop by to say hi.”
Scarlet was a little slack jawed at the kiss but pulled it together replying, "I don't think that wise. I have a someone. You need to find your own." She couldn't deny it was sweet of him to try. And although, she had missed someone physically taking an interest with Ryan being away, she couldn't stop thinking about Ryan to engage with the flirtation. Perhaps he was right. But how was it possible to be in love with someone you had only kissed, seen in person for two weeks and then just called for months. Perhaps, it would have to be something, she'd wait to see if it were true. Either way, she'd want Ryan to take the step of telling her first, to ensure it wasn't lunacy.
