New Crew 2: Rumours of a Love Boat

Posted on Sunday, 2 May 2021 - 6:05pm by Lieutenant JG Hayashi Hamura & Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali

Mission: Operation: Neu Reich
Location: USS Standing Bear | Counselor's Office
Timeline: 2394 MD04

ON:

Hayashi looked at the PaDD. Soral my friend, you are going to get it. A counselor? Seriously? Sighing he headed to the woman's office. "Alright, Haya, you can do this." Hayashi straightened the uniform jacket that seemed to be itching like hell. Sighing he pressed the button and waited to be let in.

For the second time T’Lanna almost leapt out of her skin. She shook her head, she either needed to adjust or arrange another appointment with Ryan to see about having her inhibitor either adjusted or removed. She took a moment before calling whoever was at the door to enter.

The doors parted and Hayashi walked in. "Ensign Hamura reporting as ordered." Entering Hayashi have a small bow. "You are counselor Vali?"

T’Lanna offered a smile. “I am indeed. Please take a seat and make yourself at home. The replicator is available for use if you’d like to use it.”

"I'm good." Hayashi sat down nervously.

“T’Lanna could see Hamura was nervous, “There’s no need to be nervous, I don’t bite I promise!” She offered a smile. “Have you had chance to settle into your quarters as yet?”

"No. I'm still technically waiting for assignment and I have to pack up my old quarters. I apologize I am not used to speaking about myself."

“That’s fine, I understand completely” T’Lanna offered another smile. “Do you have problems settling into new assignments at all, or do you generally find it easy to get settled?”

Hayashi thought a while. "It does take me a while to settle, when I think of it." Hayashi laughed. "I guess I'm a bit complicated. Honestly, I'm easy going but it takes a while for people to adapt to me, especially engineering. I feel like I ask a lot, I demand perfection, and frankly I prefer business during business I'm not a small talk person."

T’Lanna nodded. “Ahh so you’re one of those people that others would find stern whilst on duty. Some people work well that way, whereas others tend to be more ... uncomfortable. Would you say you demand too much of people? Or would you say you give some slack when needs be?”

"That is a difficult question. I guess I demand that they do their job. I don't like people who slack and who cut corners. I will call them out every time. I tend to be honest with my feelings, sometimes too honest."

“The fact that you recognize that fact is good.” T’Lanna made shorthand notes on her PADD as they talked. “There are always those who slack off, and those who simply hide away due to nerves or other reasons. I think you’ll find the crew here are some of the best you’ll work with. This crew is a dedicated one.”

"I hope so. Senpai tells me that everyone here is dedicated. I trust him."

“Senpai?” T’Lanna looked at Hayashi curiously. “That’s not a term I’m familiar with.”

Hayashi smiled. "It's a term used in Japan. It means someone with more experience, someone wiser. Apologies. I meant Commander Soral. We know one another from our time on the Firestorm."

T’Lanna nodded. “Ahh, I see. It’s always nice to board a ship and find someone there you already know.”

"Yeah, he and Mac and I were good friends, although I always looked on them as mentors of a sort." Hayashi shrugged. "It was Soral who asked me to come aboard here and I did not hesitate, I guess I have always wanted to sail amongst the stars and was happiest when I was able to. The station...well I always saw it as temporary but I am not looking forward to one aspect of things."

" Oh? What aspect is that? " She looked at Hayashi curiously.

"Having a roommate. I've never had one."

T’Lanna smiled. “You’re the second person I’ve heard that from today! All I can say is don’t worry. It takes time to adjust to sharing quarters, but once you get to know your roommate the two of you will hopefully get along. It will all come naturally once you get to know each other’s preferences, likes and dislikes.”

"I am a private person; I prefer to be on my own. I have promised Soral I will try this but if I cannot then I have no hesitation of leaving the ship at the next docking port."

T’Lanna nodded. “Well, we certainly wouldn’t want that, if it’s that big a problem for you once you’ve tried it then we’ll sort it so you don’t have to share, provided there’s room for solo occupation of a set of quarters.”

Hayashi gave a nod. "I appreciate that. I am a complicated individual. Soral and Mac understand it but there have been others who have not."

T’Lanna nodded, “No more complicated than other people Hamura, trust me I know! I have no doubt that Soral will have paired you with a suitable roommate.”

"Yes, well Soral and his pairings can be problematic. He fancies himself a match maker and this ship has gotten a reputation for being the love boat."

“Seriously?!” T’Lanna couldn’t help but grin. “The love boat huh? I’ll have to remember that one.”

"Well, the XO and the Second XO are an item, the Captain and the Chief Security, yourself and the Chief Ops...people talk. I also gather that the previous Yeoman and the engineer I'm replacing were an item. Then Mac and Haru..." Hayashi scrubbed hand over his face. "The more I think on it the more I see Soral as having an ulterior motive. I shall have to keep my eye on him."

T’Lanna couldn’t help but grin. “The universe works in mysterious ways, the fact that people fall in love here doesn’t always involve Soral, he had nothing to do with Raith and I being together.”

Hayashi snorted. "Yeah...I'd look more into that. That Vulcan is far too emotional for a Vulcan." Hayashi looked at the counselor. "So, any further questions or am I cleared?"

“I’m happy, so you’re free to go” T’Lanna offered a warm smile. “Welcome aboard the Standing Bear.”

Hayashi stood. "Thanks." He gave a small bow and headed out."
