Avoiding the crowds

Mission: Operation: Lazarus
It was the 12 week mark and Ade had arranged for the couple to see Ryan together during a quieter period for the med bay. The least amount of people that knew, the better. The couple wanted to tell people on their terms-- they hadn't even told Leopold's parents yet.
Adrianna kissed Leopold's cheek and smiled to doctor Rose, "where do you want us?"
Ryan smiled to them both. "We'll use the private exam room." There was nobody else in sickbay at the moment, but Ryan still wanted to offer the couple what privacy he could.
Adrianna followed Ryan into the room. It was great that Leopold could be there. She smiled to him softly, "ok, let's do this."
"I am pretty sure we already did," Leopold commented. "This is how we ended up here. We did it, and we did it well."
Adrianna smacked his arm playfully, "we need to play nice with the doctor as we'll be seeing him a lot. We shouldn't scar him for life, Leopold."
Ryan couldn't help but snicker a little. It didn't bother him at all. "It's fine." He smiled. "As you said. I am a doctor." He patted the bio-bed. "Now, hop on up, let's take a look at baby."
Adrianna did as told, quickly. She took a breath and smiled. This was still all a shock to the system and she wasn't entirely convinced her body was 100% yet from Ekos, but Ryan had discharged her. "Ready," she nodded.
"How much can we know about the baby at this point?" He asked. "I've heard there's a possibility of a holographic approximation at some point" he inquired, but looked at Adrianna to see if she'd be interested or rather leave it a surprise.
Adrianna nodded that she'd allow it, "just no gender. Bad luck."
"Ah," said Leopold. "You want to play hide the weiner from me. It will be boy, I know. Girls are rare in Eberhardt, barely enough to keep the bloodline. My aunt had to have eight children to get a boy."
"And what if we have a girl?" Adrianna asked, curiously, "I'm part of a big family and the only girl, but my mother was one of six girls. You cannot predict accurately. We will have whatever comes into this life. I suppose, at least if we have a boy, I don't have to give the talk. If we have a girl, you get two women in the house-- no control and a hell lot of attitude once a month."
"If we have girl, we have girl," he said. "But if we do have girl, she be like you...hit like boy, smash things like boy, beat up boys."
"So, you're saying we have a boy either way?" Adrianna considered the words carefully, "I take down strong men like they were boys. I eat weak men for breakfast. Of we have a girl, we're having something better than a mere boy." Adrianna teased lightly, with a little darkness in her eyes.
"Or maybe we have girl, but she ended up like me. I think the words are sloppy and delicate. "
Adrianna bit her lips trying not to laugh at him. She reached out and placed her hand on his cheek gently, "mhmm, but loveable."
Ryan couldn't keep the smile off his face at the couple's playful bickering. It reminded him of his own adoptive parents. "Well I'm not getting in the middle of the gender argument. But baby is doing just fine." Ryan pulled up a 3D scan, making sure the genital area was hidden. "Everything looks to be right on track, I don't see any cause for concern."
Adrianna looked round to the scan and beamed with delight. It was becoming more real. That was definitely a human... Ekosian... Humanoid thing. Tiny little features were certainly there to keep in memories, and help predict who the child might look like. "I forgot to ask, being that humans and Ekosians are very much alike, I assume it's still 40 ish weeks?"
Leopold looked to the Doctor for answers. "I'd suspect so. There isn't too much different in our species. We are capable of making normal healthy baby."
"And yes 40ish weeks, I'd say you two can expect a Christmas Baby." His focus was on Adrianna, as he wasn't sure Leopold would be familiar with the holiday.
"Wonderful," replied Leopold. He looked at Adrianna. "This sound good to you?" He asked.
"One hell of a gift," Adrianna chuckled, "it seems that we'll be making traditions of having a family of special birthdays. I'm valentines, this one is Christmas."
Adrianna sat up on her elbows and looked to Ryan, "give me a head start before sending the news to the captain and XO?"
"You better run and tell them now," Leopold said. "Not that I don't trust the Doctor, but this starship is small. You can't contain news like this for very long, especially with empaths aboard."
Adrianna considered it, before finally responding, "you have a point." Adrianna looked back to Ryan, "give me a few hours?"
Ryan nodded. "Of course. It will take me some time to verify the scans and input the data into your medical record." He offered the lame and frankly ridiculous time stall, but there was no reason not to let Adrianna share the news herself.
Adrianna sat up, "excellent. I'll drop you a note when I'm done. If we can get a copy of that scan too. Hopefully, I won't be long. The captain can be a nightmare to track down."
