Baciami's New Assignment

Posted on Saturday, 9 May 2020 - 2:48pm by Lieutenant JG Adrianna Eberhardt

'Shore leave', it was such a strange term for a place without a beach or ocean. Equally, it was supposed to be defined as a time in which to rest and recoup. The actual definition for the Miss Adrianna Baciami though was a touch differed. It's 'shore' was just a bar, well, at least it had liquid, even if there wasn't an area to paddle; the 'rest' and time to 'recoup', was disturbed by flash back styled nightmares. The nightmares forced her out of her temporary quarters, to either the bar or somewhere more social. The murmurs of crowds seemed to still, or at least drown out the internal conversations and the continual questions of the what-ifs.

Tonight was no different. Her body thrashed around trying to escape its visions of internal demons with no avail. Her body glistened in a cold sweat as panicked words fell from her mouth in her native tongue, as if trying to cry for mercy from her enemy.

A merciful chime from her PaDD sounded, awaking Adrianna with a start. The woman bolted upright, pulling a small dagger out from under her pillow, pointing it at an invisible intruder. Lowering the weapon and feeling foolish, Adrianna ran a hand over her face and lay back down. Her mind began telling her off for her foolish actions instead of consoling her. Sooner the better something was given to her to distract, like a new mission.

Her head turned to the side table at the lit up PaDD. After pulling her curly hair out of her eyes she reached over and picked it up. At first the light stung her eyes, but after a few blinks and a bit of squinting, Adrianna's eyes refocused.

It was like the universes had heard her. New assignment en-route. She'd been on the station longer than she had hoped, as a position had fallen through in days of late. Something about rerouting a voyage. Either way, she knew it would only be a matter of time before the next one came along, but it had felt like a damn long time. A smile was encouraged to form at the news. Tossing the PaDD back onto the side-board, the young office sat up. There was no doubt that Baciami was awake. It would be useless for her to attempt slumber again, to be fair it was close to 5.00am anyway, so perhaps it wasn't too bad.

It wouldn't be long for she was out of here, but that was ok, because the woman packed light.

Time for a new adventure Baciami.
