"Personal Log. Computer, append current stardate."

"I have prioritized repairs and set up a work schedule that should not prove too demanding. Some species require more frequent rest intervals than others; some individuals require more frequent 'breaks'. It is not a particularly Vulcan concept and I confess to having struggled early on in my career with the idea that not everyone enjoys satisfaction from commitment to the job at hand. These breaks, as I understand the definition, are moments of recreation away from work that needs to be done. While I did not see the need, I did see the resulting increase in productivity. Having understood the correlation between breaks and better performance, I have made adjustments to the schedule accordingly."

"It should also be noted that, while I have assigned myself to work on the Quantum Slip Stream Drive, apparently given the name 'Bella' for reasons I do not begin to comprehend, I will also do some of the minor repairs on my own 'break time.'"

"This is another concept that took some study to fully comprehend. Individuals who require breaks to perform do not easily accept that others do not have the same requirements. Working through breaks fosters emotional outbursts that are highly undesirable. The solution is relatively simple. Work elsewhere. Thus, I will handle some of minor complaints related to individual quarters on my 'breaks'. The nature of what constitutes a 'break' is not stipulated; if it becomes necessary, I can debate this point with a high probability of success."

"To summarize, work proceeds with the best distribution of ability to the tasks at hand. It should be noted that one individual on the team had taken it upon himself to use the schedule as a means of promoting favoritism, something I will meditate upon a bit. It would seem that some individuals derive a sense of status from the tasks they are assigned. I do not see the logic in this. That is not to say that there is no logic. Thus, the need for meditation and reflection."

“Being Vulcan, I do the tasks I am given. To do them satisfactorily is all that needs to be said. I do not require praise nor do I require reward. Only that I be given other work to perform. Favoritism seems based in emotional response; we Vulcans are wise to not do so.”
