Two reds are better than one

Mission: Operation: My Unfair Lady
Location: Crew Quarters

The road to hell is patched with good intentions…. Or something like that. With little else to occupy her time now that she had moved the puppy to her new home, Alex Kingsley had decided on visiting the holodeck. Some time running - or maybe using one of the many Vulcan martial arts that Soral had deemed too dangerous for her - was possibly just what she needed to work out some of her tension and get a good nights sleep.

And so, in her workout clothes, she headed towards the holodeck but only got as far as the turbolift when a familiar face appeared as the doors opened. “Enjoying the red hair?” She enquired with a warm smile as she stepped into the lift.

"It still feels unnatural," Adrianna replied, "I'm dying it back as soon as possible. I just need a minute to do it. Also, I thought they said that blonds had more fun. I've been hit on more with ginger hair than any other."

“What can I say? We are just irresistible,” Alex concluded as the lift doors closed. “Other than the hair, glad to be back?”

"Gawd, yes. Since Ekos, I'm not a fan of field work," Adrianna admitted, "how's life with Mr Positivity, since I've been gone."

Alex opened her mouth to reply - twice - before she realised there was no easy answer. “I’m amazed you hadn’t heard it on the gossip mill… I moved into my own quarters when I came back aboard. I think it’s fair to say that so far, I am completely and utterly failing in the marriage department.”

She tried - and completely failed - to keep her tone light. To make it seem like it was no big deal. But it was. Her entire life outside of her career had unravelled. “It’s a fight to not spend all my free time alone eating ice cream and watching sad movies…. And to top it off, because he thought my quarters would be too quiet - he bought me a puppy! I mean honestly…”

"I'm not a dog person," Adrianna shook her head before looking to Alex, "it sounds to me like you need a girls night. You, me, bottle of grappa, pint of gelato, some facemasks, and perhaps we dye my hair back too, hm?"

“It sounds perfect!” Alex admitted. “But you have your family to go home to. I’m not sure they’d appreciate me stealing your time with them.”

"I have said my hello's, I promise," she smiled, "one night won't hurt. You sound like you need it."

"So soooooooooo much," Alex confessed as she flashed Ade a grateful smile, "thank you."

"I'll get the grappa and be at your new quarters soon," Adrianna nodded, "cannot say no to grappa."

“You definitely can’t,” Alex agreed. “Computer, halt. Change of plans …”

(One hour later)

Draining a second glass of the infamous Grappa, Alex picked up her tub of ice cream and the spoon. “Maybe,” she reasoned in a moment of clarity, “we should have dyed your hair before the alcohol.”

Adrianna looked to her damp hair, "where's the fun in that?" The Italian topped off both glasses with grappa, "it's not as if we're dying it rainbow colours."

“Now there’s an idea…” Alex grinned. “Maybe I should go blonde or something for a while. Try it out and see if they do have more fun.”

"It would answer the age old question," Adrianna agreed, "seems like a sciencey thing to do. Full experiment. I think blond would look good on you."

“You know what,” Alex began before draining most of her refilled glass, “I wouldn't look good, I would look amazing. Let’s do it! Good a time as any, right?”

"Hell, yes!" Adrianna downed her glass and refilled them both, "what would Soral think?" She smirked and jokingly imitated him, "most illogical decision Alexandra, especially whilst being unhealthy and drinking."

“All the more reason to do it,” Alex concluded. “I’m his wife, we had a bond and still so many secrets… and the time he opens up about his feelings - it isn’t even really him but his evil mirror self who -“

She shuddered as she broke off, taking another drink. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Or think. Or feel. Things are so different, we can’t just act like nothing happened. And despite the anger and hurt … I can’t just switch off how I felt about him. Still feel about him. God, my life is just a huge mess.”

"He's still Soral, he's still your husband. Somewhere is the man you fell in love with," Adrianna replied, "if it's meant to be, you'll work it out. Until then, it's time to take a breath and do things for just you for a little while," Adrianna gestured to Alex's full glass of grappa, "like drinking and having a girls night."

“You are a wise woman and this glass never seems to be empty,” Alex grinned, “I like it. We need more chocolate in this equation though.”

Adrianna nodded and stood up. She was still rather sober, and it made her hate being Italian sometimes. In a few moments, she had replicated a big bowl of chocolate pieces and had set them between the women, "chocolate, alcohol and a girls night."

“To the best girls night and the wicked hangover in the morning,” Alex laughed as she picked out some chocolate.

"To a hangover from hell!"
