Heading to Sickbay T'Lanna wondered if the ships medical officer had ever come across an ex-borg before. Her implants were maintained by re-programmed nanites but they still needed checking by a medical professional on a regular basis. As she walked into Sickbay she paused to look around.
Sickbay was pretty quiet. One patient was having their checkup performed. Ryan spotted the new counselor walk in, and passed off the last of the checkup to a nurse since there was nothing of concern. He came over and introduced himself. "Lieutenant Vali. I'm Doctor Rose. Welcome."
"Thank you Doctor" T'Lanna smiled warmly as she approached Rose. "Looks like I caught you at a good time. I need to get my boarding medical sorted. Tell me Doctor do you have any experience with Borg implants?"
"You caught me at a perfect time." He led her towards a bio bed near the back of the bay, where they would have a bit of privacy. "I have a bit of experience with Borg implants and Bynar as well, but in the area of removal, not maintenance."
T'Lanna nodded as she hopped up onto the biobed. "Well these implants are self maintaining, I created a program with the help of the Starfleet doctors who treated me. My nanites are now maintenance driven not driven to create more Borg!" She smiled. "I do have problems with irritation around my implants though. I don't know why."
Ryan offered a nod and polite smile. He'd read her file, and knew the nanites were no longer classified as synthetic beings, as their programming had been altered so radically, and focused solely on maintaining the implants that could not safely be removed. "What have you tried for relief of the irritation if anything?" He asked.
"I normally just pop into Sickbay and have it sorted, I learned the hard way not to mess with sorting my own meds." She paused. "I spent ages avoiding Doctors and Sickbays after my liberation from the Borg, given the amount time I spent in the care of doctors and psychologists Sickbay was not my favourite place!"
"Completely understandable. If you ever want to meet in your office, or quarters, wherever, I don't mind. How are the implants now? Any irritation? Any other health concerns?"
"I do have some irritation around the implant above my ear, the ones in my spine seem to be fine. The internal ones are rarely any problem. The only health concern won't be a concern for around another six months yet, I'm six and a half years into my Pon'farr cycle. It's not as bad for me as it would be for a full blood Vulcan but it still has its side effects."
Ryan nodded. "Can I?" He moved his hand close to the ear in question. He didn't mind scanning without a patient even realizing, but he rarely laid hands on a patient without gaining consent if he was able to do so.
"Of course Doctor" T'Lanna nodded.
Ryan moved her hair aside so he could get a closer look at the implant. He then moved back. "What has helped in the past? Just a topical ointment?"
T'Lanna nodded. "I've been given a treatment to use whilst shampooing my hair before now, different doctors have had different methods of treatment. As long as it works I don't mind what I get."
Ryan thought about it for a moment. Until he could come up with a better idea, or better yet a cure, shampoo would be the easiest for T'Lanna. "Alright, if the shampoo option was working for you, why don't we continue with that. If you want to try something new, just let me know." He pulled out his medical tricorder. "Have you been regular in your Pon'farr cycle?" He asked. Having that sneak up would not be fun. At least if they had a definite date they could make arrangements.
"More or less" She nodded. "The only time I wasn't was while I was Borg, they found a way to totally suppress it. My body has had to get used to being normal again. Last time I was home on Vulcan so I managed to get help meditating my way through it. Prior to that I had a boyfriend who helped me through, unfortunately we're no longer together."
"Well we have some time then. I'm sure we can sort something out." Ryan completed the required scans, and added them to her rather lengthy file. "Alright, all set with that." He smiled politely. "Any questions for me?"
T'Lanna paused. "I don't think so Doctor, these medical check ins are so routine for me I'm getting used to them!" She grinned. "I take it I'm fit for duty?"
"Absolutely. Did you already find your office?" He asked.
"I got as far as my quarters but not my office as yet" She offered a smile as she hopped back down off the biobed. "That was my next planned stop."
Ryan was about to offer to show her the way, but Sam stepped over with a PaDD in hand and a 'look'. He turned to T'lanna with a polite smile. "Well welcome aboard counselor, duty calls."
T'Lanna noticed the look but said nothing. "Thank you Doctor" she nodded politely. "I'll drop back later for that shampoo."
Ryan nodded, then headed towards his office.
