Table for Blue

Posted on Thursday, 14 May 2020 - 10:59pm by Lieutenant Ryan Rose MD & Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali & Lieutenant Alex Kingsley

Mission: Operation: Recall
Location: USS Fontana | Mess Hall
Timeline: MD 2

The USS Fontana was not the most luxurious of starships, ten decks of 'compaction' with a crew of approximately one hundred souls when all accounted for. Fortunately, there was not a full complement of crew yet, but that would soon be changing. The Fontana's Mess Hall did not have much in the way of amenities. It was equipped with holo emitters in the event of a medical emergency. There were two replicator units and five tables that each seated four individuals. This provided for the seating of twenty.

There was more useable space in the room. Potential for a small bar or kitchenette to be installed, or the addition of probably about two or three more tables; however, it was clear that the designers had not wanted to shove the crew into a room elbow to elbow. Senior Chief Petty Officer Muniz had made plans to meet Doctor Ryan Rose in the Mess Hall. When he arrived, though it was relatively void of life signs, but the Ship's Psychologist and Chief Science Officer were standing at a replicator unit looking as though she was contemplating what to get.

"It does a pretty good hasperat," he said to the woman with a smile on his face. "At least that's what I heard from Chief Eyelaya" he added citing his source. "You two lovely ladies have plans? Doctor Rose should be arriving shortly. Maybe we can grab a table and the four of us can bond over science and medicine" he said playfully noting the four of them were 'blue uniform' personnel.

T’Lanna offered a smile as she looked at the Petty Officer she hadn’t met until now. “Thank you for the recommendation, I’m just a bit uncertain what I feel like eating at the moment.” She stood for a few more moments before finally settling for the hasperat.

"You're welcome, Lieutenant" Muniz replied cheerfully. His silvery hair reflecting the room's lighting as he moved around, allowing the women some room. "Who would have thought exploring space that Humans would encounter an alien culture with a burrito" he commented making note of the hasperat. "I suppose the chances were fairly reasonable, some sort of wrap folded inward with meats or vegetables. I suppose you could argue it's the curry affect."

T’Lanna grinned. “I normally just go with what I feel like. I just don’t know what I want at the moment, this seems as good as anything else.”

Ryan walked in and spotted the small group. He headed over, removing his labcoat and tossing it over the back of a free chair. "Good evening all. Sorry I'm a bit late, I got caught up in sickbay."

T’Lanna smiled as she looked up at Ryan. “It’s been a busy day for all of us. With a whole bunch of surprises!” She offered him a warmer smile.

Ryan noticed T'Lanna was still without food. "Can I get you something?" Ryan asked, but more to the group in general than just T'Lanna. "I'm going to the replicator anyway."

“I did bring the hasperat” She motioned to the plate which was now sitting away from her. “I changed my mind. I’m not sure what to have! Please tell me I’m not going to spend my entire pregnancy second guessing what I want to eat!” She grinned and shook her head.

"Well, I could tell you that, but I'd probably be lieing." Ryan replied. He waited a moment to see if any food request would come his way before heading to the replicator.

While the others were talking, Alex was contemplating what to order. Eventually she settled on some arriabiata and a chilled glass of water. Turning she almost walked head first into Dr Rose. “Hey,” she smiled. “How’s the alligator? He behaving?”

Ryan turned a light shade of pink at the mention of the stuffed alligator. "He's fine. Hasn't attacked anybody." He pulled a nearby chair out for Alex as her hands were full then let the group know. "I'll be right back." There was no way he was going to burn his mouth eating the hasperat, so he headed to the replicator and ordered a fish taco with rice and beans.

While Ryan was gone T’Lanna changed her mind and politely started tucking into the hasperat she’d picked up. She paused to take a sip of some cold water. She smiled as she looked towards Alex.

Alex offered a polite smile as she ate, far more hungry than she realised. She made a note to apologise to the good doctor, she had spoke without thinking of how embarrassed he might have been. Great start Alex...
"Alligator," said Alvaro looking perplexed. He was not sure he wanted to know the details of that. How the hell did they get an alligator on a ship this size. We hardly have enough labs for basic science needs thought the man. He approached the replicator and placed his own order. "Vegetable samosa and tamarind chutney" he said ordering his food. He paired it with an order of Darjeeling tea. He carried his tray of food over to the table.

Ryan gave Alvaro a slightly sheepish look. "Stuffed animal alligator." he explained. "Don't worry, I'm pretty sure we aren't equipped to handle any reptiles that large on board."

T’Lanna couldn’t help but giggle. “A stuffed alligator, that’s so sweet!”

Ryan took his seat, managing not to blush at T'Lanna's comment. "So, how is everybody? It's nice to take a moment and enjoy a meal not eaten at my desk." Ryan asked.

“We are just fine, thank you Ryan” T’Lanna grinned. She was referring to herself and her baby being fine whilst trying not to grin like a giddy school girl but just thinking of Raith made her do so.

Alvaro smiled and took a sip of tea. "It makes me feel a lot less stressed knowing the science department is under some leadership now," he said noting Alex. "I was truly concerned that I would have to handle everything until we returned to Federation space again. The last thing I wanted was to be heading a department."

“I quite like being the head of a department” T’Lanna smiled. “There’s something about being your own boss that I like!”

“I hadn’t been planning on it,” Alex admitted, “but you can’t pass up opportunities and it means I won’t be randomly reassigned in a few weeks so... plus I’m liking having more floor space.”

“Oh I agree with that one!” T’Lanna smiled pushing her half finished plate of food away. It seemed being pregnant was going to play havoc with what she had to eat.

Alvaro scoffed "What I would I do for some more floor space" said the man. "I'm crammed into these tiny quarters with a petty officer from security. He has some serious body odor issues."

Ryan was listening to the conversation, but let it wash over him rather than contribute. He was happy to simply have some company for dinner.

T’Lanna offered Ryan a smile, she considered him a friend and being pregnant she’d be seeing a lot more of him over the coming months. “How are things going for you Ryan? Are you enjoying being the Chief Medical Officer?”

Ryan returned the smile, then answered "Very much. It's nice to fully make my own decisions in regards to care, but the paperwork is horrendous." He grinned.

“Now on that I agree with you!” T’Lanna grinned. Still at least I get to sit down while I work.” She did her best to stifle a yawn.

"Sounds like someone is being called away for some rest" commented Alvaro. "Have you been getting enough?"

T’Lanna promptly turned a shade of red and choked on her food. Coughing it up she grinned as she looked at Muniz. “Well being 7 weeks pregnant tends to zap my energy.” She also thought of her time spent with Raith. She couldn’t wait to be in his arms again.

“I’d happily take paperwork over being in the nebula again,” Alex reasoned.

“Likewise” T’Lanna smiled at Alex. “I’d happily never go near it again.” She yawned. “Anyway if you’ll all excuse me, I’m going to head to my Quarters and get some well earned rest.”

"Likewise" replied Alvaro. "I have some soil samples to examine" he added. It wasn't an excuse. It was work as boring as it may have sounded to others, he was practically giddy about it.

I absolutely adore these snippets of life on a ship.

Great work all.
