The curtain in Alex's room was drawn. Max entered and walked over to the bed. "Good morning. How are you feeling today?”

“Ready to feel some sunlight on my skin,” came a hopeful reply. “Is Soral with you?”

"He's getting the paperwork. They are releasing you at noon. But...there is someone here who wishes to ... as she put it spring you." He grinned.

“Who?”

"A little elf." He grinned. "Oh Lady Severine!"

A little hand pushed aside the curtain. She looked a Alex for a few moments the curtsied. "Hello Lady Alexandra."

It was fair to say that the seven year old child was not the person Alex expected to see. Yet she hid her surprise quite well considering. “How many cookies will this cost my mother?” Alex smiled before shaking her head, "never mind. How ever many cookies you want, they are yours! I don’t suppose either of you brought clothes?”

Max held up a bag. "Jeans and a lavender shirt, Severine insisted on picking them out." He gave Alex a wink.

“Thank you, just sit it on the bed then you two can go look all innocent in the waiting room while I get changed,” Alex said, shooing them towards the door, the thought of fresh air and warmth invigorating her. It was harder work than she expected but she managed with a mix of perseverance and stubborn determination. That and she had no intention of being half dressed when either of them walked back in to find out what was taking so long.

Severine and Max waited outside while she changed.

“Okay, come help me escape,” Alex called out as she slipped on her boots.

Max came in pushing a hover chair and Severine came trailing after him.

Max held out his hand. "Here let me help."

“I’m pretty sure I’d rather crawl,” she groaned as she took his outstretched hand.

He helped her settle into the chair. "Ready ladies?" Soon they were cruising the halls and before long they were outside sitting under the shade of a tree. Max had moved away a little to give Alex and Severine some space.

Severine for her part was studying Alex. "Your hair is fascinating."

"So I've been told," Alex said with a small smile, thinking of how often Soral had just sat and played with locks of her hair. "Although I imagine it isn't looking to great right now but it doesn't matter. It feels good to be outside and feel a little warmer. Did you tell your father what you were planning to do?"

"Indeed. I wished...to speak with you."

Spoken like a Vulcan. "By all means," Alex told her with an encouraging smile.

She sat looking at her feet. "I never had a mom. I am not sure how to be a daughter."

"Well," Alex said slowly, "I've never had a daughter so I'm not sure how to be a mom. If you'd like, we could maybe figure it out together? If you want to. I don't want you to feel that I'm trying to replace anyone."

She looked up at Alex. "That would be illogical. I never knew my mother and Liviana is my aunt...who thinks I'm weird. I would very much like to try Lady Alexandra."

“Okay then... that’s settled. Just one thing, when it’s just us all together as a family, you can just call me Alex. Deal?”

She gave a nod. "I shall try. It is Vulcan custom though...but I will try." She paused. "Are you upset at me?" She asked. "I didn't mean to make my father sick."

“I’m not mad at you,” Alex promised. “And I know you didn’t. He was just surprised is all.”

Before Severine could respond Soral walked up. "Ah there you are. I see Severine was able to get you out."

Alex smiled with all the energy she could muster as she reached for Soral's hand. "Indeed, she is one to keep an eye on," she agreed. "And she even remembered to pick me out clothes."

"I can see that." He studied the two. "Hades has agreed for us to leave however he has a specific condition."

“That we never darken his doorstep?” she guessed.

"Nope that you allow me to spoil you."

“That seems an unlikely condition,” Alex said slowly, clearly suspicious. “What kind of spoiling?”

He shrugged. "Husband's discretion." He looked at Severine and Alex. "Are you two hungry?"

Husband’s discretion made her even more suspicious. “A little,” she nodded. “What kind of food do you like, Severine?”

She shrugged. "I have only ever had Romulan."

Soral gave a nod. "Not the easiest of food to keep down. Perhaps you would like to see your mother's favourite restaurant?" He said, he'd taken to referring to Alex as Severine's mother as in his mind she was.

Severine gave a nod. "If...." she looked at Alex. "You wish to share it with me."

“You want to go to Cambridge?” Alex asked, surprised and hopeful as she looked at him in amazement. She expected to be ushered back to her mother’s house to be confined to bed. This was so much better. She grinned at Severine, “wait to you try the desserts...”

Soral supressed a smile. "Very well I shall go and make shuttle arrangements. Mackenzie will stay until I return then I have promised to give him leave."

“You will love Luigi’s,” Alex enthused as she watched Soral leave just as Max came wandering back in their direction. Very subtle. Alex turned her attention back to Severine. “Maria and Roberto are so nice and Roberto is an amazing chef. Your aunt loved the pizza. We could share one if you’d like?”

Severine's eyes brightened. "I'd like that."

Max smiled. "Out just a few minutes and already plotting world domination are we?"

“What can I say, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do,” she grinned. “And Severine is a very able accomplice. Who would suspect her of trying to take over the world?”

Max laughed.

Severine watched the two. "What would the logic be in trying to take over the Earth?"

“You’ll understand once you have discovered pizza,” Alex assured her.

Soral was back within moments. "All is set." He turned to Mackenzie. "Are you sue you would not like to join us?"

"I have other plans." He gave Alex a wink leaving Soral raising his eyebrow.

Alex offered him a wave, guessing his plans involved Haru. “Do we get to leave the chair?” She asked Soral hopefully. “I’m pretty sure my legs work just fine.”

"Indeed." He looked at Max. "What are you not telling me?" He looked at Alex. "My wife?"

Max grinned, rarely getting the drop on his friend. "She knows everything but is under oath to say nothing. Vulcan's cannot cause another to break their oath."

Soral just stood open mouthed.

Max gave a little air pump with his fist. "Check mate!" He winked at Alex. "Have fun all." He hurried away.

“Let him win this one, it isn’t anything bad, I promise,” Alex assured Soral as she held out her hand, “please can we escape and have pizza?”

Soral took her hand. "Indeed my wife."

Arriving just as Roberto was opening up, the party of three had the undivided attention of their hosts for most of their meal. Severine was fussed over, with Roberto at first making her a tray of pizza bites so she could decide which toppings she liked best. Soon enough he was in his kitchen, happily crafting a masterpiece for the girl to enjoy. Since, as he declared with an affectionate smile, he knew Alex would eat ‘anything’ he put on a plate. She couldn’t argue with that.

While her own appetite was missing in action, it was enough to watch Severine’s eyes light up at the taste and when she had finished her half, Alex had winked, distracted Soral as she pointed out a painting and used the opportunity to spin the plate so that Severine could eat the rest. And amazingly Severine still managed to ask lots of questions, especially when she learned this was where Alex lived for a time. She was an incredibly good distraction from any worries playing on her mind.

Severine had had a new world opened to her. She was enjoying every minute.

Soral, for his part, had been enchanted by how Severine and Alex had bonded over pizza. He was deeply touched by what he saw but saddened that Severine had grown without a family thus far. He looked at them. "You two seem to be having a... good time."

“She is curious, I can relate,” Alex smiled. Besides, she had no intention of dwelling on other things and upsetting the girl. She was only seven. At that Roberto appeared, all his attention on the youngest dinner.

“If the young lady would like, I have a table set up over hear with a sample of my finest ice creams, you can pick a favourite,” he declared, ushering her to a nearby table.

“Just not mint chocolate,” Alex warned, “you will hate it.”

“She lies!” Roberto declares with a hearty laugh, “she just wants it all!”

Alex shrugged as she reached for her glass, “had to try.”

As Roberto made sure that was the first ice cream Severine tried, Alex pulled her hand back from the glass when she realised it was shaking. Instead she moved it under the table, as she turned towards Soral. “You have been quiet...”

He'd noticed her hand. In fact he'd been taking every detail in. "Indeed." He tuned to Roberto and ordered another slice of Pizza for Alex. "You must eat a little and then we'll go and rest. If you are up for it tonight we can go shopping."

“Shopping?” She frowned, “for anything in particular?”

"A few things." He said cryptically. "Or we can wait until you are better."

“I’d rather be busy,” she said slowly, her suspicion still evident as her slice of pizza arrived. He was up to something, she could just tell.

He raised an amused eyebrow. Her face was so expressive. "Shopping it is."
