Location: Various --- Dream

ON:

Soral lay in bed holding Alex. They had both been exhausted and sleep claimed them almost right away. Now he drifted into a deep, troubling dream...

=======Elsewhere--Dream=========

It was done.

Taking his rightful place, Soral watched from the command seat as his wife finished dispatching his predecessor, Captain Tagget of the SS Humanity. While he feigned an apparent disinterest in the man's fate, he had to admit that what his wife did with her mind was quite beautiful.

Standing in the centre of the Bridge, Alex Kingsley stared at the prone body of the former captain as she nudged him with the tip of her boot with a somewhat disappointed expression. While the captain's last agonising moments had been theatrics on her part, she had hoped he would last just a little longer.

Still, she had ensured his death was needlessly prolonged and rightly painful. Punishment for the lingering glances and unwanted advances, not to mention and the poorly disguised plans he had made to try and undermine her husband at almost every turn. He had been weak, although it was well hidden beneath physical strength and arrogance. Already the ship and crew had suffered unnecessary losses under his command. Former command.
But no longer.

"I think," she declared, stepping over the dearly departed captain, "that I am beginning to like this little ship... "
There was a playfulness to her voice, her every move. An enjoyment at the chance to unleash her abilities now that their plans had come to fruition. Seizing command of this ship was a vital component, for while small she was powerful. And the most advanced of her kind. Soral had other ships, indeed bigger ships, at his disposal but this one... this one was perfect for the next stage of his plans.

Standing before Soral she held out her hand, Tagget's prized command insignia resting in her palm. She had torn it from his chest without laying a finger upon his body. Indeed, she had not physically laid a finger upon him since she stepped onto the Bridge. "The ship is yours, Captain."

His eyes smiled. He kept his expression neutral but through their bond he sent her acknowledgement of how thrilled he was to watch her work and how proud he was of her. Their story was a long and romantic one.

He stood taking the insignia from her. "Well then. I assume promotions are in order, but first." He motioned for the men to clear for former CO's body off the bridge. "Now then. Lieutenant Commander Kingsley. I hereby promote you to full Commander and confer upon you the title of XO." He removed his own pips and placed it on her. He handed her the former CO's pips so that she could place them on him.
She smiled as she affixed his new rank insignia. “I like,” she grinned, “your orders, Captain?”

"We can discuss them in my ready room at length a little later." He whispered low. "Now. Hernandez, you are now my chief Tactical Strategist, MacKenzie take Assistant Chief Security." He looked around at his children. "Commander," he said to his wife. "I think it's time to hand out some other promotions too."
Alex nodded to Severine and Soval. The twins had been observing in silence, yet now moved forward in perfect synchronicity. Even as adults, they were inseparable. Where one excelled in science, however, the other preferred the raw and physical world of combat.

Working his way through the ranks of Tagget's various crews within this sector had all been designed to lead Soral here, to serve on the same ship as his eldest children who had helped to orchestrate his takeover. Until yesterday, however, most of the crew knew nothing of the familial bonds which bound them. Of the loyalty to their father. Indeed, others, such as Haru and Mac were just as loyal to him.

“Soval, you are promoted to Lieutenant and our Security Chief. We seem to have a new opening,” Alex informed him with a knowing smile. She had particularly enjoyed overseeing Soval's efficient yet bloody proclamation of loyalty to his father. Soral himself could not have done better. “The loyalty of this crew, the protection of your Captain are your top priorities.

“Severine, you will be our Science Chief,” Alex announced as she turned to her protegee, “with the rank of Lieutenant. You will do your father proud and have learned all I can teach you. Seleya!”

She turned to find the Vulcan woman in their midst. She moved forward to stand proudly at Soval’s side. “With your new position as Chief Engineer comes a promotion to Lieutenant. Do not let us down, understood? Wife of Soval or not, we cannot afford mistakes now. We have come too far and you will have much to do."

The pride in his wife was clear. Soral studied his crew. There was one more promotion to be made but later. "Excellent choices Commander. "Everyone take your stations and secure the ship." He nodded particularly to the security department. "Commander Kingsley, join me in my ready room. Severine, you have the bridge."

Soral stood and walked towards the ready room. He entered and left the door open for Alex to follow.

“A successful day,” Alex decided as she entered, closing the door. With a swipe of her hand what few personal belongings of their former CO was sent into the nearby bin, accompanied by the sound of glass breaking. Oops. Turning to Soral she smiled, “so, how does it feel to be Captain of this ship at last?”

He held out his hand and when she offered hers, he gave a firm pull letting her fall onto his lap. "It would mean nothing if you were not by my side." He wrapped his arms around her and laid his head on her chest. The best decision he'd made was to marry her. It was also the hardest.

She was much younger than he and he'd been her mentor and protector for a long time. He'd watched her grow as a person, as a power, as a woman and he'd been taken by her mind and beauty even when he was married to Anandrine. Or Evesta as she liked to be called.
Divorce was not an option for Vulcans and at the reconfirming ceremony Alexandra had shocked everyone when she'd challenged Evesta for him. He'd agreed to be the property of the winner, a role not often granted to Vulcan males but he'd enjoyed every minute and she'd beaten Evesta clear with her fighting skills. Ohhh he'd known she'd used her mind abilities to her full advantage but by that point he'd been routing for her.

“Where else would I be?” She smiled, taking his hand and moving it so it rested on her abdomen and the smallest tell tale sign of their unborn child. Now, she knew, she could tell him. “And besides, we have to pick out names.”

He looked up. "You are with child?"

Had he been so preoccupied that he hadn't felt it? So many emotions rolled through him, gratitude, happiness, awe. He closed his eyes. The last time she'd been pregnant a couple of years ago they'd wound up with three boys, triplets. He grinned at her as he did only when they were alone. "Another set of triplets?"

“Just one child,” she whispered as she leaned back into him. “So perhaps the medical bay will have less damage this time? I did not want you distracted for today. I think a girl. Or maybe another boy...”

He closed his eyes. "I sense female energy. A girl." He felt over the moon happy. "My wife you bring so much joy to my life." He stood lifting her in his arms and turning her in a circle before settling back down. "I am so glad you challenged Evesta. You had courage where I had none."

“Evesta,” Alex pouted, “thought of everyone as her pawn. She never deserved you. Our daughter will be beautiful. Powerful. She will have the universe at her feet.” With each statement about their future offspring, she punctuated every prediction with a kiss.

"Indeed, she will. She is your daughter so she will be all those things and more." He tucked her hair behind her ear. "Names...Galaxia? Genesis? Atlanta?" All names that evoke fire and rebirth.

“All good options,” Alex smiled. “Genesis would be rather fitting, I think? I shall give it thought. It does mean we will have to make a detour in a few months. But first, I was rather hoping we could celebrate in style tonight?”

"What did you have in mind?"

She did not explain, at least not in words. But her intentions and desires were far from hidden, instead they flowed through the bond they shared. “Something like that,” she said with a mischievous grin after kissing him. “I’m sure Severine’s more than capable of keeping watch over the ship.”

"I agree." He stood and held his hand out to her. "Shall we?"

"We shall. For tomorrow, we have more work to do."

As they stepped out into the corridor N'vek joined them. He'd been Soral's personal guard for a long time now and his mentee. Once they were locked in their quarters, he stood guard outside while behind closed doors the celebration could begin.

===== USS Standing Bear=====

Soral sat up and gasped. The dream had felt real right up until...he looked at Alex. Were these Pon'farr induced dreams he wondered.

Beside him Alex stirred briefly before shifting so that she had her arms wrapped around him as she continued sleeping.

Soral wondered what had just happened. The dream was so real. He settled back knowing that he wouldn't be able to fall back asleep.
