With the briefing over T’Lanna caught up with Hamura she had a few questions regarding the Trellium-D and what help Hayashi would need. “Ensign... Hamura” She smiled as she caught up with Hayashi. “What can I do to help?”
"Counselor. I believe nothing at the moment...actually maybe there is. Can you distract the XO?"
“I can try” T’Lanna smiled. “Soral isn’t that easy to distract.”
Hamura sighed. "Indeed not. But perhaps you can come with me. I'll show you what I was thinking with respect to you and Soral helping safely." That and Hamura had a few things to discuss with the good counselor.
T’Lanna nodded. “Of course, please lead on.” She smiled warmly. “I have no wish to be in extended contact with the Trellium-D so I’ll be keeping to Captain Stillwater’s instructions of minimal contact.”
Hamura gave a nod. "Excellent, one less Vulcan to worry about."
T’Lanna smiled. “Soral maybe head strong but he’s got this ship and her crew’s best interests at heart.”
"Oh I know the Senpai well hence my worry." He studied Vali and wondered something briefly. Stillwater was placing a lot of faith in her and she wasn't engineering...did he want to replace Hamura? Was there an issue because of rank? Hayashi resisted the urge to rub a forehead pain that was turning into a migraine .
T’Lanna looked curiously at Hamura. “I know I’m not an engineer but I know my way around Ops. Besides Psychology it was one of my top subjects at the Academy. I’m a but rusty but it’s better that than no help at all.”
"Indeed. I'll do what I can to minimize any risk."
“I know you will” T’Lanna smiled. “Are you worried? I can’t sense your emotions but I am learning to read body language and I’m picking up some tension from yours.”
"About the Trel D? No I have worked with it before."
“No I was thinking about the fact that you’re paired with me” T’Lanna smiled. “I offered because I want to prove myself useful, maybe I need to prove to myself and to those I scared to death not too long ago, that I’m good old me again.”
"My emotions, like most Betazoids, are complicated. I must admit to feeling a little...apprehensive. Nothing personal on you just the Cappy doesn't seem to trust me or I wouldn't have two babysitters."
“Babysitters!” T’Lanna shook her head. “You do not have babysitters Hamura. You certainly don’t need them. If you want me out of your hair then just say so and I’ll leave you to your work.”
Hamura knew better. "It's all good. I'm used to it. CO's underestimate me all the time. Senpai is the only one who ever saw someone worth any time. Now. That's not important. The important part is to get you fitted. "I have an idea how to minimize your exposure."
“Great!” T’Lanna smiled. “What’s your idea?”
"We'll do a lot virtually via holo but there will be some items where I will need some enhanced vision. Are your optical implants still functioning?"
T’Lanna nodded. “The implant still works, not that I’ve really used it in that way for a long time. Most of my implants were removed after I was liberated. My eye is obviously prosthetic.”
"Okay that will be a big help that it still works." They walked in the turbo lift and headed to Engineering. "Actually that inhibitor could be useful too."
“My inhibitor...” T’Lanna looked uncertain. “In what way? It’s keeping my abilities under control.”
"Yes but it can be linked to the ocular implant to give us more precision."
“Ahh I see” T’Lanna nodded. “Okay, you’re the engineer, and I trust you.”
Hamura gave a nod. It didn't take long but they were settled in Engineering at one of the consoles. "Okay so I'm going to need to scan you if that's okay."
T’Lanna nodded. “Knock yourself out” She grinned.
Hamura smiled. "Okay then. Just sit still. It will tickle."
T’Lanna nodded a little. “Understood.”
The beam seemed to fall from the sky and then envelop T'Lanna. The hum of the scan as it worked its way through her could be heard. Hamura checked the read outs and within a minute the scan stopped. "Excellent."
T’Lanna looked at Hamura curiously. “Can I see the results? I’m always curious about my scans.”
"Of course." Hamura turned the screen to her. "These are the technological scans so it's not a full bio scan like Sickbay. It's a scan that shows the nanites in your system. The yellow areas show that all is functioning at nominal." Hamura pointed to the green. "Those are developing connections and the bright orange are in need of a tune up."
“I still have nanites that are developing connections? My nanites are programmed to simply keep my implants in good working order. External implants can be maintained but internal ones are the responsibility of my nanites.” She looked at the amount of red ones. “Can you tune up those that need it?”
"Yes and they maintain your implants by developing new connections, adapting, and severing old ones. It is natural as for the tune up I can. Chief Eyelaya left detailed notes. She was...quite fascinated with Borg tech."
T’Lanna nodded unhappily. “Yes... she was. She’ll be missed. I’d appreciate your help Hamura.”
Hamura nodded. "You were close with her?"
T’Lanna shook her head. “Not as close as I’d have liked to have been. Eyelaya wasn’t easy to get close to except for her love of Borg tech.”
Hamura smiled. "I sense that. She left...personal logs for the next Engineer. It was interesting. She had a lot of technical stuff in her personal logs. I have been getting to know her."
T’Lanna smiled. “She was a unique soul, one I was privileged to know. If only for a short time.”
"Indeed. She seemed like it." Hamura paused. "Alright. Now the virtual part, this is of course, thanks to Eyelaya that one of these exists on the ship. If you will follow me."
T’Lanna nodded. “Lead on, I’m curious to say the least!”
Hamura led her to a small room that looked like a mini holodeck. "Welcome to the VR room." Hamura said keying in the Chief Engineer's code.
“Virtual Reality?” T’Lanna was now more curious than ever. “This will be a first. I had no idea this even existed.”
"It does when Trel D is involved and when we have Vulcans involved. Rare but needed." Hamura stepped to the center of the room. There a chair and helmet waited. "Let's test this and see if you get dizzy with it on."
T’Lanna nodded. “So this is stimulating being near the Trel D?”
"Not precisely. It will simulate you being there so that you could work on the Trel D using a holo image of yourself that is solid. There are parts where you will be present in the room but we're tying to limit that as much as possible."
T’Lanna nodded. “Okay now I feel like an idiot!” She grinned. “Okay let’s do this.”
"No need for that. It's not common knowledge. Have a seat and we'll fit the helmet."
T’Lanna sat she could only hope that she could handle working via VR. “I just... want to be useful Hamura. Since I lost my father I’ve struggled to find my centre, to find peace. I just want to be useful and learning new skills is one of those things I do.”
"Then this will be something new. Just let yourself adjust. I've set it up so that it's simple. The images it will project is engineering. I'll go back to the main space and your holo will appear there where you are sitting in here. Make sense?"
“Perfectly” T’Lanna nodded. “I just hope I don’t let you down.”
You won’t just be aware that it will take some adjustment so if you are dizzy or feel unwell you must tell me.’
