7 Week Surprise

Posted on Tuesday, 28 April 2020 - 12:31pm by Commander DeVala Victrix Ph.D & Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali

Mission: Operation: Recall
Location: Ready Room

{ON:}

T’Lanna made her way to Victrix’ ready room, she’d informed Soral of her pregnancy but she needed to make sure that her CO knew of it as well. Difficult decisions regarding where her baby would be after the birth would come later but right now it was something she didn’t need to worry about. She stopped at the door and pressed the chime.

Having recently returned from her little joyride aboard the Merlin, Lieutenant Commander Victrix was still working her way through various unexpected reports. It seemed that Soral's itch for scientific study had proven fruitful. Unfortunately, the two had not managed a proper sit down as of yet to discuss everything that was going on. There was still a lot that the Commanding Officer had to get through other than the shuttle mission reports and their findings. There was also the matter of Lieutenant Vali's progress update on narrowing down the haystacks to find their needle; Commander Barret Stillwater.

The chime alerted her and Victrix left her room and entered the joined area which served as office space, a Ready Room. She had already experienced how difficult it was to fit more than three occupants in comfortably. She was hoping it would not be more than one guest. Unlocking the doors with the holo controls that came up from her desk, she permitted the visitor in. "Oh Lieutenant," she said greeting the Ship's Psychologist. "I was just going to get around to checking how you were doing."

T’Lanna smiled. “Actually that’s why I came, that and some news I have for you Ma’am. Doctor Rose tells me that I’m 7 weeks pregnant.”

That was not news that Victrix was expecting to hear. She was nervous about how to respond. "Are congratulations in order?" she asked. It was not automatic that a woman even in the late 24th century was pleased about that news. "You didn't know I presume?"

“No ma’am...Cyndi, I didn’t but I’m happy about it. I just wish my baby’s father was alive to hear the news too.” She paused. “Jason was my best friend, as much as this wasn’t planned I’m happy.” T’Lanna smiled. “I hope my pregnancy isn’t going to be a problem, I know this isn’t a family oriented ship.”

Victrix gestured to the replicator "Get yourself something to drink," Victrix said as she picked up the mug of coffee that had been resting on her desk. The Commanding Officer proceeded to walk over towards the sofa and took a seat. It was an indication that she wanted T'Lanna to join her. "I was not aware you had lost someone recently, Lieutenant. I am sorry for your loss. Nine inhabitable decks is not the ideal place to start a family...I cannot disagree with that, but you did not plan on this."

“No, I didn’t” T’Lanna made her way across to the replicator and came back a few moments later with a fruit juice. She took a seat and made herself comfortable. “I know I’m going to face some hard decisions later on but for now I just want to concentrate on looking after myself.” She sipped her drink. “Actually I’ve found someone aboard whose come to mean a great deal to me in a very short time, he wants to take care of me and I want to be with him.”

DeVala smiled after she took a sip of coffee. "I am glad to hear you have someone in your life. There used to be a time where starships did not carry families aboard. Fortunately, we have gotten past those days...and the days of skirts on our uniforms, though I do not have any personal complaints about that so long as they are long enough and entirely optional" commented the woman. "What I worry about is the ship and crew. We're a small ship and it's going to get intimate aboard with tight spaces and getting to know one another over. I certainly am not going to block a romance from blossoming aboard, but they're definitely will have to be some decisions made in several month's time. For now, though, focusing on your health and well being us exactly what I would do in your position."

T’Lanna nodded and sipped her fruit juice before placing the glass down on the coffee table. “I was studying Captain Stillwater’s personnel file, I have to say I like the man. He resigned his commission to Starfleet because he felt what was left of the Romulan civilians were left abandoned, he felt that Starfleet could have done more to help them. From what I’ve read I’d take an educated guess at him being located on a world where Romulan and other refugees would settle. Maybe somewhere other Ex-B’s would go too.”

"Quiris sector" replied Victrix. "The planet Vashti was chosen as the relocation hub for the Romulans refugees. It certainly took on a bulk of the refugees; however, Federation presence there was fairly strong until after the destruction of Romulus. It became too hostile. Small pockets of Romulans were brought to Earth, Vulcan, and other worlds as you are aware, but I suspect it's too on the nose" mused Victrix. "A Federation world would be too difficult for him to vanish from Federation radar."

T’Lanna nodded. “Are there many worlds where refugees were sent that aren’t Federation?” She paused. “Is there anyone whose known to ferry refugees and those looking to get away? I’m an Ex-B I could easily pretend that I’m looking to get away from the Federation.”

"You could also very well end up in a chop shop," replied Victrix clearing her throat. "Ex-Borg are being hunted down by something or someone. I've seen reports and it is sickening. The Federation efforts were to settle them on Federation worlds, to provide them with protection, and frankly to monitor them; however, some of those refugees turned away from the Federation. They found their own places to go. Some started their own microcosm colonies, their own little slice of the Empire."

“Really?” T’Lanna looked a little disturbed. “I didn’t know any of that, to be honest I haven’t really taken much interest in news concerning the Ex-B’s, I’ve always avoided it due to my Borg past. It’s nice to be aboard a ship where people who’ve met me have just taken me for who I am. Chief Eyelaya thinks the fact I’m part augmented is great, she’s become my official artificial intelligence engineer so-to-speak.” She smiled. I feel...” She paused and smiled as she looked at Cyndi. “At home here. I guess I’ll just have to be careful from now on, not to be out in the open anywhere alone.”

"Yes, it is all rather disturbing," Victrix said shaking her head. "Some of it not known to the general public, but with your security clearance being upgraded...you are a bit more privy to sensitive intelligence matters" explained the Commanding Officer. "Chief Eyelaya is....something else."

T’Lanna looked at Victrix curiously. “So there’s more to Eyelaya than it appears?”

"Possibly," replied Victrix. "She appears to wear her emotions on her sleeves and unapologetically so. I can take her in small doses, others a bit lesser. I suspect a few may find her refreshing. What's your professional assessment?"

“She’s a very....personal young woman. She has told me a small amount about herself in confidence, but all in all I haven’t gotten anywhere fast in attempting to Counsel her. She just wants to be left alone, to be who she wants to be and right now She has a bubbly personality when it comes to synths and anything synthetic and that includes my Borg implants. She’s become my official engineer and expert.” T’Lanna paused. “All in all, I like her.”

"I like her as well. I just feel like I need a hypo for the headache that she leaves in her wake" replied Victrix. "So, where does this leave us with Stillwater? If we remove Federation worlds from the equation we will be looking for somewhere Romulan refugees would settle."

T’Lanna nodded. “I’d say so, yes. Somewhere away from the Federation where he could settle amongst those he feels an affinity with.” She paused for a moment. “I’d like to request assignment to any away team you send to find him. If he’s the type of man I think he is, then my being an Ex-B might come in useful. Plus my training as a psychologist and counsellor would be invaluable.”

"Of course, Lieutenant. When away teams are dispatched, I will be encouraging Commander Soral to add you to the list" Victrix replied. "Perhaps, you can use your deductions and meet with the Chief Science Officer, use stellar cartography to start isolating regions or sectors that match what we are looking for."

“Yes ma’am” T’Lanna grinned. “I haven’t had chance to get to know Alex that well yet so it’ll give me a chance to do just that.”

Victrix nodded "Nor have I" she confessed. "I have not had much of an opportunity to get to know the crew as of yet. This would definitely provide you the opportunity to get to know her, and perhaps find some stones for us to turn over."

“I’ll do my best.” T’Lanna smiled as she stood ready to leave. “I’ll keep you up-to-date on what we find.”

"Please do and with the pregnancy too" replied Victrix. "If you end up letting the crew know...granted when you start showing, it will be ship-wide news quickly. Probably should tell them before the bump comes" noted Victrix. "Anyways, I think it will be a good morale builder."

T’Lanna nodded. “In that case, I’ll be sure to let others know.”

The Commanding Officer stood and gave a nod. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I look forward to seeing where the breadcrumbs lead us."
