Unlocking a mystery

Posted on Sunday, 19 June 2022 - 4:23pm by Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali & Commander Soral & Lieutenant JG Hayashi Hamura

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Starbase
Timeline: 2396 - Before Soral left for Risa

ON:

T’Lanna had waited for Soral and Alex to return from their Shore leave before venturing to see Soral. She needed to know the truth about Hamura, if not for her own piece of mind then for that of Oriana. Making her way to his quarters she paused outside the door and pressed the chime then waited for an answer.

Soral had returned early. Alex would make a decision as to if she was going to use their extended leave or come back with him. He was just sorting through a few things when the chime stopped him. He turned and headed to the door opting to open it himself. The door hissed open and he raised an eyebrow. "Lieutenant. Please enter." He stepped aside. He wondered how long it would take her to visit. "You are well?"

T’Lanna nodded as she stepped inside. “I’m fine, thank you Soral. I hope your break away was a restful one?”

"Indeed. I have yet to decide if I shall return or if I shall take some time." He motioned for her to sit as he headed to the replicator. Would you like a drink?"

T’Lanna took a seat shaking her head as she did so. “No, thank you for asking.”

He ordered a lemon water for himself and sat across from her. He would let her talk, today he wasn't much in the mood for conversations.

Waiting for Soral to sit T’Lanna studied him curiously. “I came to ask about Hamura, Oriana is convinced that Hamura isn’t our Hamura. Is she correct?”

He studied his glass a moment. "We were all changed by this experience," he said carefully.

T’Lanna nodded. “Indeed. Hamura gave me a file to read all about my counterpart but I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. To be honest I’m not sure whether I should read it.”

"It can be difficult, it you yet not you. The question is what would you gain from knowing what life you lead there."

“I guess you have a point” T’Lanna offered a smile. “I never even thought about it until I was offered this PADD.”

"Indeed." He sighed. "I am guessing you have much to ask." He waived his hand. "Ask away."

T’Lanna nodded. “Okay why has our Hamura been switched?”

"Not Physically, no."

T’Lanna raised an eyebrow in typical Vulcan fashion. “Then mentally? The two Hamura’s have been blended?”

He studied her. "Indeed," He sighed. "Hamura, ours, would have died as would theirs have if they were not joined. A Katra transference and integration."

T’Lanna looked surprised, “Does the Captain know of this?” She sighed. “What of you Soral? Am I talking to a mix of Soral’s? I’ve been fooled once before.”

"The Captain knows. I am both. By embracing the darkness one can heal and I believe that both of us need this healing. He was curious of my life here and I of his. The body is in stasis for now." He stood and walked over to the desk pulling out a Padd. "This is the psychological profile and information from Vulcan. I will be going through medical after my...rest period. Once you and the doctor are satisfied I shall return to duty. You will however have to approve Hamura for duty as well." He handed her a second PaDD.

T’Lanna nodded. “At least I have some honest answers now which helps. What of Alex?” She looked at Soral curiously. “How does she feel about this?”

"She has yet to find out. I will speak to her of this when I see her shortly."

T’Lanna nodded. “Very well, I need to talk to Alex myself as well.” She paused looking at the PADD Hamura had given her. “Why did Hamura give me this? What is it about the other me?”

"I am uncertain but Hamura would only give you something if it would be a help a strength. Many do not know the real Hamura nor do they give them enough credit."

T’Lanna nodded. “So Hamura thinks I need toughening up huh?” She offered a smile. “I guess that’s right in some ways, I’m good at second guessing myself. Right now I can’t afford to do that, I have a whole Starship of people relying on me as First Officer, at least until you’re ready to return to your duties.”

"The first step to that is realizing that you can do this. Ensure that your belief in your abilities is high and when it's low lean on others. See yourself through their eyes."

T’Lanna nodded. “I will, thank you Soral. When you see Alex tell her I’m looking forward to having her back, I’ve missed both of you.”

"Indeed. Alex is taking some time to recover. I shall see her on Risa and then I will be going to Vulcan."

T’Lanna nodded. “How soon do you both plan on being back with us? I’m not afraid to admit that I miss both of you.”

"As soon as possible. I have submitted my medical information for review and when Starfleet and Vulcan have cleared me I will return as for Alexandra...I sense that she has much to deal with."

“Of that I’ve no doubt” T’Lanna nodded. “Tell her I’m here for her, whenever she needs to talk. Not just in my official capacity, but as her friend.”

"I will do so." He wasn't so sure that Alex and he could weather this storm. "I will also be returning with my eldest son, N'vek. He will be joining us aboard."

“Wonderful” T’Lanna smiled warmly. “It’ll be nice to have N’vek onboard.”

"Indeed, he is...much like me." He looked at Vali, "I will need your help with him."

“Of course” T’Lanna nodded. “As a mother I understand how hard it must be for you. I’ll do my best to help.”

He gave a nod. “Well I should go, I have a few matters to attend to before I head for Risa.”

“Of course” T’Lanna nodded. “For What it’s worth Soral, I’m glad you’re okay.”

"As am I. As okay as I can be. This...merging is interesting. I feel as if I am myself but changed."

T’Lanna gave Soral a curious look. “Changed in what way? Is it in a good sense?”

He shrugged, “Perhaps. It is as if I am discovering facets of myself I was unsure existed.” He sighed. “I will speak to the healers on Vulcan. In the mean time I have a … favour to ask of you.”

“A favour?” T’Lanna gave Soral a curious look. “What favour would that be?”

"Keep an eye on Hamura, I am guessing they shall soon have a difficult time to get through. Normally I am here to aid but this time..." He waived his hand around, a helpless gesture.

“That’s a promise” T’Lanna nodded. “You’ve all looked out for me, now it’s my turn to do the same for all of you. I won’t let you down, that’s a promise.”

“Thank you.”
