The mirror cracks

Posted on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 - 6:18pm by Lieutenant T'Lanna Vali & Lieutenant JG Kay’la

Mission: Operation: Lazarus
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD12 late night

{ON}

Sickbay was quiet, sometimes way too quiet admitting it was late. The lights were dimmed and T’Lanna had awoken from what had started as a peaceful slumber, she looked around somewhat confused as she could have sworn she’d heard her mother’s voice. Much like the dream, or nightmare she’d had aboard the shuttle that she’d shared with Raith. Yet this voice seemed to be so much closer, it seemed to be so near.

“T’Lanna....” The voice echoed through Sickbay like it was in the same room.

“Who is it!?” T’Lanna sat up and looked around.

“Don’t you know me?” The voice was calm, gentle.

“I know who you sound like! But you’re not her!!” T’Lanna slipped out of bed and looked around. “You’re not my mother! She’s dead!”

“Poor child, you’re confused.” The voice echoed all around and yet T’Lanna couldn’t find exactly where it was coming from. “I’m alive T’Lanna, and you need me, now more than ever!”

“You’re lying!!” T’Lanna shook her head. “I found my mother’s body! I took her home to Vulcan!!”

“You’re wrong child” The voice remained soft, and controlled. “That was the mother of the child from this universe, a child who ceased to exist a long time ago... that’s not who you are T’Lanna. You belong with me.”

“I... don’t understand! Not that I want to!” She shook her head. “This is all in my mind, the effects of the Trel D! I’m going crazy just like I feared!!”

“No T’Lanna, you’re not. As you will see soon enough, you will come back to us.”

T’Lanna sat back on her bed, rolling up into a ball cradling her head. “Just go away! Leave me alone!!”

Moments later a hand rested on T’Lanna’s shoulder. “T’Lanna are you alright?”

“I said GO... away...” She opened her eyes to see the familiar face of Kay’la looking at her with concern. “I... I’m sorry, I had a... dream, I think.”

Kay’la nodded. “It’s perfectly alright. The biobed picked up your elevated heart rate, and set off the alarms. “I take it that it was more of a nightmare?”

T’Lanna nodded. “You could say that. It’s one of a kind I haven’t had since I was liberated from the Borg when I was younger.”

Kay’la nodded. “After everything you’ve been through lately I’m not surprised. You’re lucky to even be here, and that’s got to have psychological repercussions.”

T’Lanna nodded. “It’s a shame I can’t psycho analyse myself isn’t it?” She offered a brief smile.

Kay’la grinned. “It would certainly save time. Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

T’Lanna nodded. “I’ll be fine, thank you Kay’la. I’m sorry I raised my voice, I didn’t mean to.”

Kay’la nodded. “Think nothing of it.” Walking away she frowned wondering if this ‘nightmare was anything to worry about. After the exposure to Trel D who knew what the side effects would turn out to be?

~ Meanwhile in the mirror-verse ~

The scene opens on the inside of a Borg cube, where T’Lanna’s mother is, as her nightmare of so long ago revealed, the Borg Queen. At her side her chosen mate T’Lanna’s father stands at her side.

“She resists the truth, but the time is coming. The veil between our universes is weakening, when the time comes she will return to us, and her uniqueness will add to the collective. It will give us the edge we need to infiltrate and finish what we have started.”
